Could be a number of factors... how good is your graphics card?

Hello Kenneth,

it has nothing to do with your graphicy card in my opinion. It takes a lot of time and effort to get high quality images in Apophysis. Sometimes you get a random flame which does not need anymore adjustment, but speaking for myself in 99 per cent you will have to take the time and move the triangles around, change the x or y axes length, go into deeper adjustments like changing the amount of blur or noise, but only in little steps...........and then wait for the preview to render at quality setting 50 at least. Sometimes the change of gradient will give you a totally different image, which is sometimes worse and sometimes better. You can try and rotate the gradient if you want a certain color of the gradient to dominate. Every little step will change your image, and it is wise always to wait for the preview to finish first before you go on.
If you like a certain flame and just find there is too much "dust" in it, try to set the gamma down a bit. This will also make the colours a bit brighter which is not always wanted as it can make the colour look unnatural.
Let the main program window take only a quarter of your desktop.........that will give you a quick preview of appr. 20 seconds with every step, and you have enough space left to have the transform editor, the adjustment window and the mutation window open all at the same time.

The most important advice I can give you is:
Try, try, try, try and try again after you finished trying ! :)
A good and high quality image takes its time, and you have to work on it to get there.
Feel free to ask any further questions, I will try my best to help you there.
Btw, you should be aware that you get addicted to this. :)
Good luck ! ❤️
anyone got a working link to apophisis ? mine had a time limit and no longer works. :what

There is another thing that may be of interest......

when you go into options --->options --->display
you can enable the png-transparency whenever you want to have the flame with a transparent background in order to create your own later on. You will get a layer ready to use in whatever your digital editing program is.

Yes Iain, patience and time plus enjoying to experiment is all that is needed really.

Kenneth, I forgot to mention that you can always cancel the steps you have made. And I think it is the feature I use most of all *rolleyes* ;)

Very well put Antje....as with most artwork there is no instant fix....it all takes time care and effort plus practice to attain the quality. Knowing your applications helps. Experiment with them and play with them. Read the messageboard here....it is packed with good information on How to´s and for acquiring different image enhancers. At the end of the day though it comes down to good old fashioned patience and time. 😎 ;) :congrats
