I think all you can do is optimize the images as much as possible without losing too much quality/colour in something like Photoshop or PSP. Then zip the optimized images. Apart from that, I can´t see much else you can do. sometimes BMP files compress better too. Try that as another option.
Hey Sed 8)

Jason, if I am correct, we can upload PNG formats as well as GIF and JPG´s?

If that is the case, PNG compression is excelent and quality loss is minimal. I suggest you convert your BMP´s to PNG´s. They sometimes compress down to only 1/10 of the original file and PNG is the preffered format for online submissions to PixelPrintz.
Grim, People that DOWNLOAD one of my ZIP BMP filed WALZ .. Are they going to be able to put a "PNG" on their screens as easily as a bmp???
QuickChanger will let you use a .png but desktop architect does not and I don´t have display properties here so I don´t know about that (took long enough to say it didn´t I :D ).
I think I´ll just keep it to an 800x600 BMP @96dpi as usual and a 1024 x768 96DPI bmp ... Less trouble uploding... I get all kinds of FREAKY from skinbase errors but then they show in my Gallery !!! FASCINATING!
I may work on the PNG idea in the ZIP ... I have L A R G E rez WP´s now that I don´t include. Those are waiting for GRIM ... If it´s to be in a PNG format ... THEN I"LL LEARN.
Sed, yeah.. there is no easy fix. The problem is that large image uploads usually ´time out´ if you have slow connection or if there is a lot of traffic on the site, so you get an error message. The only solution is to give members FTP access for direct uploads.

For example, on skinz.org they expect me to put a BMP in the zip for download and JPG/PNG for preview. But I have so far been unable to upload anything in 1600x1200 resolution cause the uploads time out. To overcome this problem, some guys are just uploading smaller resolutions and giving the option of : ´email me if you want other resolutions´ or ´you can get more resolutions from my site´

About PNG: This new compression for images was developed mainly due to the limitations of GIF and JPG formats. Some wallchangers already handle PNG´s like +0 mentioned and I hope more will do in the future because it uses excelent compression technique with minimal quality loss.

And Sed.. just hang on to those larger resolutions, I think gRAVE may have an idea of how to solve this problem 8)
