DokT....... you make very good points :-) I just got through reading both threads at WC and if any one does not want their day ruined, don´t read it......... I hate to read a comment that consistently puts the other skinning community sites down for pop-up adds.... "at wincustomize I read, you want pop-ups like all the other skinning sites have, we at WC don´t want that" well they don´t seem to understand, ALL these so called OTHER skinning sites have WINCUSTOMIZE SKIN CATEGORIES, where would WC be at if all those so called skinning sites decide to "REMOVE" all of the WC skin categories to SAVE on BANDWIDTH, WC don´t help support all these skinning sites that help HOST their skins for FREE.......... I see one hell of a racket going on, skinning sites host WC products skins for FREE, skins are being made for WC FREE etc etc and I´m suppose to believe WC and their excellent products can not afford their own over head............... You know, one hand is suppose to wash the other, example.... I built and design a new sport car, and built it so the buyer can have different color tires, and I´m going to advertise my new car to sell it with FREE colorful tires, thousands to choose from.........is it "right" for me to go out and find some people to do it for FREE because they enjoy making the colored tires, then turn around and tell them that my over head is costing me too much because I need a bigger place, my business is growing....... so you people that are making my colored tires for "free" and also buy my cars, I´ll give better "tools" to make those colored tires, but you will "pay" me rental every two years to use those tools ....... Sorry but I´m not stupid, if your making monies off your product you´ll have to allow your company to put monies up for the cost of advertisement, over head, payroll, and your own cost of living and NOT expect people to do it for you for FREE.......... Yes the WC is a nice site, but I don´t care about a threat that they´ll shut the doors, because the other so called skinning sites don´t have to host their skins at all, and that alone will cut down on traffic/bandwidth, these sites that are hurting IMHO is due to the WC traffic.......... I for one can find another hobby skinning some thing else and will show their appreciation for doing so.......... you don´t bite the hand that feeds you, and mine was bit more then once. Sorry this is so long, but I do have a big mouth, welcome aboard DokT and pitkon, any one for a sangria :-)

Ah I´m back, but only for education because this thread keeps popping up at the top....and wow...if only the world knew all of this stuff....I wish it could be published everywhere....I hope more people leave WC and join real sites like this one....that shows that changes will occur...may be slow...but it´s still evolution... wow...Dokt and pitkon both make me want to hack winCustomize and destroy its existance...but I´m not a hacker, nor am I that harsh as a man...Seems I only have 3 skins there..but I don´t think I will upload anymore...A certain statment changed that... Pitkon - ´I didn’t know I had to pay a site for other people’s work which they had contributed for free. ´ I think that is the most powerful statement on this page because he is a ´user´ and a devoted one at that....he´s the guy that enjoys a skinners creations.. and respects the heart and soul applied to every piece....There´s a lot of honor in that, and I´d take his side anyday...It´s people like you that bring all the inspirtation needed to keep skinning...I had no clue that membership was an issue as well...and I wish stardock and wincustomize would burn in hell cus it´s just not right! Welcome to skinbase....Pitkon and Dokt... :)

There seems to be a real tendancy among some people to only recognize wrongs or misdeeds done to them while being completely oblivious to their own behavior. Re-read Dokt´s post´s finish. To people who consider WInCustomize their home site, Dokt´s final sentence "I´m out of here, see you at DevArt, Deskmod, Theme XP or any of the real community sites. " was completely uncalled for. "Real" community sites. It´s as if people feel that they aren´t responsible for what they say and when people react to what they say, it´s somehow completely the fault of those reacting rather than the person who made the inflammatory remarks in the first place. The misrepresentation of the Style XP scenario is just such an example. Here we have a company, TGTSoft who was (and still does) spread falsehoods about their competitors. Have used fake users on websites to attack Stardock. And only after all this do people like me state things that are factually true do some people start to cry foul. People have to take responsibility for their own actions and deeds. I have said many things over the years I later regret. But the reaction Dokt received wasn´t due to some site being "mean". It was due to Dokt´s own words. Not to mention he was simply dead wrong. I´ve seem far worse flame wars on deviantART when someon criticized the site. Especially with regards to dA subscriptions. In short, if you go onto a site´s message board and flame the site, what do you expect? Calling it a "Fake" community site in essence is going to create a reaction. Incidentally, WinCustomize has never threatened to shut down and won´t be shutting down. If I had to take a "side", I would rather be on the side that believes in personal responsibility and sharing than on the side that believes that problems are always someone else´s fault and believes that "community" involves just taking. I think Pikton really represents the other side very well. It was okay for him to use other people´s stuff without giving anything in return (the money argument is a red herring because you don´t have to buy anything, there are so many other ways to contribute back to the community). And he, like Dokt and Chichigirl probably sees nothing inflammatory with calling many of the top skinners in the community, who have been sharing their work with you for years without asking anything in return "corporate controlled" skinners. Sheesh.

To Dokt and Pitkon (and any others this may apply to): First, let me say "Welcome". There will always be a place a the ´Base´ for skinner and user alike. I hope I can speak for the rest of the crew when I say that we don´t care about your past. We DO care that you´ll feel comfortable here. Comfortable to skin what you want, and comfortable to download what you want. I hope that the majority here will also agree that there is really only one unwritten rule here: That you treat others with the same ammount of respect that you would wish to have yourself. I think that rule covers quite a bit: That you won´t rip anothers work. That you won´t flame another members work, or their character. That if you feel unjustly treated, you´ll have an ear that will hear you, and a hand that will try it´s best to correct the issue. No doubt, we, the admins, will screw up from time to time. We´re human, so we´re bound to drop the ball once in a while. But we are are also answerable to you. You´ll have to let us know when we´ve flubbed up. Trust us - we will try to do our best. That doesn´t mean that we´ll always rule in the favor of the loudest, meanest or most ´influential´ members. Hopefully, as we have in the past, and will continue to do in the future, we will help when it´s needed. But we aren´t cops - we are administrators. And I guess what I´m saying is that while you are free to express your OPINIONS, please remember that while you don´t have to LIKE an application, a web site, a skinner, or anyone else for that matter, you need to RESPECT EVERYONE here. Brad Wardell is a member here, and if you want to find a place to bash him, please find another place. Do it by Email, or face to face, for that matter. I think everyone here that feels that they´ve been "ganged up on" doesn´t care for that feeling. If that is a true statement, then doing the same thing here simply reduces us to level that we say we hate. Hopefully, all of us can be both bigger and better than that... Sorry if I sound ´preachy´ when I say all this, but this site means A LOT to me. I think it can be something more than a flashy, stylish, site with a group of "Elite", with a following of "Lesser" members. It can be a home to those who are tired of ´playing the game´. It can be a home to those who want to express themselves in a POSITIVE way - through their art. And without having to deal with cheap shots and flames... Frogboy, I will repeat myself. I would gladly give something back in return, if I could. I can´t skin. I havent the gift for it. But I did comment on other peoples´ work at WC and I think this amounts to something. If u r going to quote me, I would be obliged if u used my exact words. I wrote about conglomerate controlled and not corporate controlled skinners. U, as a company man, should know the difference. I was talking about the FUTURE, the shape of things to come. Unless u think Stardock is already a conglomerate. I wouildn´t call today´s top skinners of the community, as u call them, conglomerate controlled. Not yet. One last point: If i remember correctly, urs was the first reply to my thread at WC. I understand u r Stardock´s representative at the site or something. Don´t u think u should let some other people reply first before joining in? I mean it´s what I would expect from a free site that just happens to co-operate with a company. Have a good day.

So, I wont write again about what happened at anorher site and I won´t reply again to Frogboy or anyone else from WC about this unfortunate incident. Well you can´t have it both ways. Who do you think runs WinCustomize? Some of the top skinners. And who are the ones who would resent the site being called a fake community site? And in the context of what you said, I think it was pretty clear what you meant by conglommerate. I mean, even I a "company" man (forget that I have a lot of skins and themes here too that I put up here in my free time) was able to grasp whaty ou meant. What would you suggest we do? Censor users opinions? And yes, commenting on skins does count for something but how many times had you ever participated in the message boards? Anyone with apprentice access or higher is not subject to the bandwidht cap. It´s easy to say that some "company" pays for a given site but the reality is that people who buy WindowBlinds and such have been paying for that bandwidth. If the choice is to raise prices on WB or ask the 0.1% of the userbase that uses nearly 10% of the bandwidth, it seems to make sense to focus on that 0.1% of the users.

Some of you won´t know me....wouldn´t know me if your life depended on it, but I´m one of the ´Stardock Mafia´, so eloquently referred-to. I´m not a ´newbie´, or a ´lurker´...I gave up ´lurking´ when skinz.org first started, having gotten into ´skinning´ via LiteSTEP well before then, when the only place about skinning was ´Customize.org´. My number one interest has always been in LiteSTEP themeing, though I have skinned just about every app there is that can be, including ones that are long-dead. I´ve uploaded to every site in Skinning and LS themeing over the 5 years or so of doing this. The longest time any LiteSTEP-hosting site has been up without ´going down for the count´ has been Wincustomize.com [strange, that]...so needless to say, I support WC. I don´t have a website of my own...to display my themes....and they are often ´big´ files....4 or 5 meg. They take a hell of a lot of Band Width to download...something I couldn´t afford on my own, and certainly not getting it out to so many thousands/millions of people who frequent a site as ´large´ as WC. I therefore cleverly decided to support WC.....by purchasing product, helping out...eventually getting invited to help out as an Admin. Now, it´s particularly imperative that if you only ever understand/comprehend one thing and one thing only in my little discourse here......being asked to help ´Admin´ Wincustomize...by people in the community that both myself AND probably ALL of you too, genuinely admire and respect, namely the likes of treetog and Alexandrie.....THAT has been the hilight of my skinning ´career´. My one considerable fault is that I tend to respect people...and their rights to an opinion...and I´m willing to ´get involved´...to help...to make a difference. What don´t I like about Brad and Stardock? Simple. Brad has made a reasonable success out of his hobby....and I´m a tad jealous. Why do you all dislike him and/or Stardock? Be honest. It´s probably the same reason....;p As for those threads re Dokt, etc on WC.....show me where an admin has been specifically antagonistic or inflammatory. What you have there is actually a few FELLOW skinners a bit pissed-off with the sattitudes of some, disparraging the many. Now, peeps....just ignore ALL of this. Write it off as the ramblings of someone who knows nothing...or just the propaganda of the Mafia. Chichi, one thing I have learned over the years of reading your posts is that no matter how carefully worded, you seem to refuse to actually listen to what people say to you. Your lengthy post about WinCustomize is a perfect example. All your points would be very compelling if they weren´t based on fiction. I´d like to see a compelling argument that argues that the people who have a warez or unregistered version of the software they´ve downloaded a hundred MEGABYTES of skins for should have that bandwidth they used subsidized by the people who have registered the software. You, for instance, would never face any kind of restriction regardless of whether you had purchased Object Desktop or not because of your contributions to the community. That goes for people who haven´t even mdae skins but instead spend time helping out other people on the message board. I just can´t seem to get too much sympathy for warez or shareware abusers who have quietly downloaded a hundred megs of stuff and then cry foul when faced with having to actually start doing something constructive in return (like registering the software they´re using).

Ah...who really cares anymore...this topic needs to go away...and you know what? I stand behind all my words...Some may think me harsh but I never claim that I´m always right, only that I have an opinion...Phuck it though...a question was asked and answers were given...For me...It just happened to be at a critical moment as I was commiting many hours and days to a project that seemed to be going no where due to its limitations...I have a bit of a temper and I usually fight the course of nature to avoid letting out the beast...but this conversation just pisses me off to no end...It seems that I hold a grudge againts everything I read in this thread...but it wont go away...I´ve made many inflamatory remarks....I´m not ashaimed...I´ve been bashed...but I will never go away....for I will only fuel the fire when I am angry...And another good point is...It´s too easy and so my point would be....True facts shut people up...and obviously there are still people talking... Chichigirl: You are correct, it is SD´s problem to take care of the warez people. You are complaining about the solution - limiting them to 100 megs if they don´t do something in return. This solution doesn´t have any affect whatsoever on skinners.

Chichi, You make excuses all the time because you are almost completely oblivious to how mean your writings can be. Heck, even in your above post you couldn´t restrain yourself from making an ad hominen personal attack. (and then finishing by first posting a thread she read on WinCustomize and then claiming how "low" I am because I should somehow magically know she doesn´t comment on the WC message board anymore despite the fact that she just demonstrated that yes, she does read the WC message board and hence nothing wrong with me mentioning her because I knew she reads the MB. Even after she has posted multple times in THIS thread LINKS to the Wincustomize message board as if to ensure everyone knows that she reads the WC message board.) And you see, you refuse to take personal responsibility when you obviously flame someone and then say "in no way is this flaming anyone.." You state something hurtful that is demonstratably false and then when called on it say "Well I was just giving my opinion". In the multiple times you´ve been overtly abusive on the message boards, the only time (and it was only once) you apologized for your abusive behavior was because so many people were politely pointing out how out of line you were. If you want to have a constructive discussion in which you are opening to exact some sort of beneficial change to something, it would be helpful if you would start looking at the things you write. Calling people names, accusing them of being unethical (now Stardock runs a "racket"), etc. are not condusive to a meaningful exchange. It would also be useful if you would discuss topics that are based on facts. You have consistently ignored the fact that SD customers, skinners, and other contributors are exempt from the 100 meg download limit. It was pointed out to you by several as far back as April. Yet you continue to ignore that and pretend that Stardock is somehow sticking it to skinners. If you just want to rant, then feel free, I´ll let you alone to do that.

Sorry I´ve not been around here, of late.....got involved with a bit of a hissy-fit at Devart...and I was also in the midst of getting to grips with OTS-compliant LiteSTEP themes.....done a few ´newies´, too.....inspired by a BoXXi wall and another by a Misery [Deaddreamer] wall....[a new WB skin and WinAMP to match]. I´ll up some of this new ´stuff´ here shortly....still ´debugging´ [just in case]...;) And...while I´m here...being a nuisance....to all those ´disgruntled´ ex-Wincusto people....you´re all quite welcome to return if the fancy arises. We may ´disagree´ but we are not really ´disagreeable´...;)

Yes I posted this on WinCustomize because I thought that rationnal answers would be given. Not a word exchange between two people. Again this is no DeviantArt or WinCustomize or Customize.org for that matter. Here is the question again. Why do people dislike Stardock so much? Is it because of Brad (frogboy)? is it because they are the biggest like Microsoft and therefore they have to be hated? is it because their software is not worth the hype, or are they just to expensive? Why do people dislike Stardock?? But like Bugz said, answeres have been given and you guys are beside the point right now. and Jafo, can´t wait to see some new stuff here.

Hmmm ... all due respect to the admin - comments duly noted. My post referred to Brad/Frogboy directly because he´s the public face of Stardock and that´s what this thread originally started out discussing. I bear no animosity towards the man whatsoever - I don´t know him - so how could I? I can however comment on the way he conducts his business and you´ll note that of all the things in my long post above, the only thing he chose to reply to was the TGTsoft debacle. And he acuses others of selective arguments? Brad - I´ve re-read my post several times and I can´t find any mention of my calling contributers to Wincusto "corporate skinners" - perhaps you´re confusing me with someone else. If anyone´s a corporate skinner around here, it´s me, because I get paid to write about GUI customisation (amongst other things) - in effect I get paid to hang around on sites like DeviantArt. You misrepresent me again, Brad, when you say I called Wincusto "Fake". I said nothing of the sort. Did I, like many other people so it would seem, pick up on the fact that Wincusto can be an extremely unfriendly place? Hell yea. Perhaps the fact that I´ve pointed out the massive bias towards Stardock skins on your site hit home. I´ll say it again - if you´re charging people access to the site, surely you owe it to them to provide a broad spectrum of application skins, rather than just a slab of Stardock products and a smattering of non-threatening third party applications? I´m all for sharing - every skin, every wallpaper, every zoomer that I´ve ever produced has been released for other people to use. Moreover I have, in the past, spent a lot of time on the Stardock newsgroups helping Stardock customers get to grips with Stardock products - specifically DesktopX. Are those the actions of someone who doesn´t share? Check my download quota on Wincustomise and I think you´ll find that I have downloaded very little, despite the fact that I´m a fully paid up subscriber of Object Desktop. Is that all take and no give? And since people are probably getting heartily sick of this subject I´ll shut up now. If anyone wants to contact me directly off-list regarding any of my comments I´ll be more than happy to oblige them.

i still see WinCustomize as a support site for StarDock customers. you can´t get any skins at windowblinds.net, it links directly to WinCustomize. so i could not care less if they charge for the website as long it stays free for their customers. i´m none of them, but i don´t think i´ll reach that 100 MB cap soon. there would be only one section i am interested, but there are dozens of places where i can get LiteStep themes and nearly all of my favorite themers don´t submit to Wincustomize anyways (probably due to the LiteStep bashing StarDock did in the past). i don´t feel WinCustomize is a community site to the same amount as other sites, it´s a site for the StarDock part of the community as LiteStep.com is a site for the LiteStep part of the community. nothing wrong with that.

I have to admit one thing thougt. I went thru a lot of post on messages boards on winCustomize and Deviantart where a lot of people are saying they are leaving the site. You don´t see anyone on Skinbase or artUproar (yes I know LOS) posting the same messages. Coincidence? First of all, why do people do that, Of course they are going to received some comments like "don´t let the door hit you on your way out. if you wnat to leave a community, well do it. Anyway my point is. they are alot of people leaving theses sites and going back to others like VA who is picking up the ex-DA. That´s because they are not satisfied with the community and are looking for some other means of sharing their art.

Hobnobber, I wasn´t aware Stardock was having "problems". Secondly, there is an irony in seeing you complain that I singled someone out to comment to while several times in this thread previously I´ve been singled out. Chichigirl: You can define flaming whatever you want but it doesn´t match what everyone else I know´s definition. Obvoiusly it´s convenient to re-define flaming so that you can claim you´ve "never" flamed anyone. Here´s a hint: Calling people names is considered a flame. And you´ve called me names countless times as well as others who disagree. Dokt: When you call other sites "real" community sites then the implication is that the othe rone is "fake". As I said on WC, I like your work. You have created a lot of good things. But I feel that the posts you objected to would have been much harsher had the person who was complaining about subscriptions posted on some of the other sites in our community. Brub: I would say that "leaving" posts have to do with statistics. WinCustomize and deviantART get a million plus visitors per month. More so than all of the other skin sites combined. The activity of their message boards and libraries are proportionately busier as well. Hence dA and WC see these kinds of posts. Have you ever considered what would happen to Skinbase if it´s bandwidth requirements increased by an order of magnitude? An individual can pay for a site that uses say 1.5 megabits of bandwidth. When it´s using 20 megabits, the costs are too high for an individual to pay for it. They´d have to find some ways to help pay for the site.

Dokt: One request: WHO is being charged to use WinCustomize? You say above "if you´re charging people access to the site, surely you owe it to them to provide a broad spectrum of application skins, rather than just a slab of Stardock products and a smattering of non-threatening third party applications?" BUT, upon reflection, we would like to point out that it was NOT the senior citizens who took: The melody out of music, The pride out of appearance, The romance out of love, The commitment out of marriage, The responsibility out of parenthood, The togetherness out of the family, The learning out of education, The service out of patriotism, The religion out of school, The Golden Rule from rulers, The nativity scene out of cities, The civility out of behavior, The refinement out of language, The dedication out of employment, The prudence out of spending, or The ambition out of achievement, And we certainly are NOT the ones who eliminated patience and tolerance from personal relationships and interactions with others!! Does anyone under the age of 50 know the lyrics to the Star Spangled Banner? Just look at the Seniors with tears in their eyes and pride in their hearts as they stand at attention with their hand over their hearts! Remember.......Inside every older person is a younger person wondering what the heck happened! YES, I´M A SENIOR CITIZEN! the life of the party...even if it lasts until 8 p.m. I´m very good at opening childproof caps with a hammer. I´m usually interested in going home before I get to where I am going. I´m awake many hours before my body allows me to get up. I´m smiling all the time because I can´t hear a thing you´re saying. I´m very good at telling stories; over and over and over and over... I´m aware that other people´s grandchildren are not as cute as mine. I´m so cared for -- long term care, eye care, private care, dental care. I´m not grouchy, I just don´t like traffic, waiting, crowds, lawyers, loud music, unruly kids, Toyota commercials, Tom Brokaw, Dan Rather, barking dogs, politicians and a few other things I can´t remember. I´m sure everything I can´t find is in a secure place. I´m wrinkled, saggy, lumpy, and that´s just my left leg. I´m having trouble remembering simple words like....... I´m realizing that aging is not for wimps. I´m sure they are making adults much younger these days, and when did they let kids become policemen? I´m wondering, if you´re only as old as you feel, how could I be alive at 150? I´m a walking storeroom of facts.....I´ve just lost the key to the storeroom door. Yes, I´m a SENIOR CITIZEN and I think I am having the time of my life! Now if I could only remember who sent this to me, I would send it to many more! Now- Have I already sent this to you???????

I can´t think of anywhere other than WC where you can download so much stuff for free. WC has never asked me for a penny and I´ve been going there since it started. Most sites would collapse if a couple hundred thousand people downloaded stuff each week - that is some bandwidth. The only problem WC has is being a victim to its own popularity...and you know what that attracts... BTW, I bought a subscription. Not because I had to, but because I wanted to.

Not for Young Eyes...They might get ideas! For those who already have children past this age, this is hilarious. For those who have children this age, this is not funny. For those who have children nearing this age, this is a warning. For those who have not yet had children, this is birth control. The following came from an anonymous Mother in Austin, Texas. Things I´ve learned from my children (honest & no kidding): 1. A king size waterbed holds enough water to fill a 2000 sq. ft. house 2 inches deep. 2. If you spray hairspray on dust bunnies and run over them with roller blades, they can ignite. 3. A 3-year old´s voice is louder than 200 adults in a crowded restaurant . 4. If you hook a dog leash over a ceiling fan, the motor is not strong enough to rotate a 42 pound boy wearing Batman underwear and a Superman cape. It is strong enough, however, if tied to a paint can, to spread paint on all four walls of a 20x20 ft. room. 5. You should not throw baseballs up when the ceiling fan is on. When using a ceiling fan as bat, you have to throw the ball up a few times before you get a hit. A ceiling fan can hit a baseball a long way. 6. The glass in windows (even double-pane) doesn´t stop a baseball hit by a ceiling fan. 7. When you hear the toilet flush and the words "uh oh," it´s already too late. 8. Brake fluid mixed with Clorox makes smoke, and lots of it. 9. A six-year old can start a fire with a flint rock even though a 36-year old man says they can only do it in the movies. 10. Certain Lego´s will pass through the digestive tract of a 4-year old. 11. Play dough and microwave should not be used in the same sentence. 12. Super glue is forever. 13. No matter how much Jell-O you put in a swimming pool you still can´t walk on water. 14. Pool filters do not like Jell-O. 15. VCR´s do not eject PB&J sandwiches even though television commercials show they do. 16. Garbage bags do not make good parachutes. 17. Marbles in gas tanks make lots of noise when driving. 18. You probably do not want to know what that odor is. 19. Always look in the oven before you turn it on. Plastic toys do not like ovens. 20. The fire department in Austin, TX has a 5-minute response time. 21. The spin cycle on the washing machine does not make earthworms dizzy. 22. It will, however, make cats dizzy. 23. Cats throw up twice their body weight when dizzy. 24. The mind of a 6-year old is wonderful. First grade ....true story. One day the first grade teacher was reading the story of the Three Little Pigs to her class. She came to the part of the story where the first pig was trying to accumulate the building materials for his home. She read, "...And so the pig went up to the man with the wheelbarrow full of straw and said, ´Pardon me sir, but may I have some of that straw to build my house?´" The teacher paused then asked the class, "And what do you think that man said?" Wellness thoughts for the Day... 1. There´s always a lot to be thankful for if you take time to look for it. For example, I am sitting here thinking how nice it is that wrinkles don´t hurt. 2. When I´m feeling down, I like to whistle. It makes the neighbor´s dog that barks all the time run to the end of his chain and gag himself. 3. If you can´t be kind, at least have the decency to be vague. 4. A penny saved is a government oversight. 5. The older you get, the tougher it is to lose weight, because by then your body and your fat are really good friends. 6. The easiest way to find something lost around the house is to buy a replacement. 7. He who hesitates is probably right. 8. If you can smile when things go wrong, you have someone in mind to blame. 9. The sole purpose of a child´s middle name is so he can tell when he´s really in trouble. 10. How long a minute is depends on what side of the bathroom door you´re on. 11. If ignorance is bliss, why aren´t more people happy? 12. Most of us go to our grave with our music still inside of us. 13. If Wal-Mart is lowering prices every day, how come nothing is free yet? 14. It is important for men to remember that as women grow older it becomes harder for them to maintain the same quality of housekeeping as they did when they were younger. When men notice this, they should try not to yell. Let me relate how I handle the situation. When I chucked my job and took early retirement a year ago, it became necessary for Nancy to get a full-time job both for extra income and for health insurance benefits that we need. She was a trained lab tech when we met thirty some years ago and was fortunate to land a job at the local medical center as a phlebotomist. It was shortly after she started working at this job that I noticed that she was beginning to show her age. I usually get home from fishing or hunting about the same time she gets home from work. Although she knows how hungry I am, she almost always says that she has to rest for half an hour or so before she starts supper. I try not to yell at her when this happens. Instead, I tell her to take her time. I understand that she is not as young as she used to be. I just tell her to wake me when she finally does get supper on the table. She used to wash and dry the dishes as soon as we finished eating. It is now not unusual for them to sit on the table for several hours after supper. I do what I can by reminding her several times each evening that they aren´t cleaning themselves. I know she appreciates this, as it does seem to help her get them done before she goes to bed. Our washer and dryer are in the basement. When she was younger, Nancy used to be able to go up and down the stairs all day and not get tired. Now that he is older she seems to get tired so much more quickly. Sometimes sheays she just can´t make another trip down those steps. I don´t make a big issue of this. As long as she finishes up the laundry the next evening I am willing to overlook it. Not only that, but unless I need something ironed to wear to the Monday´s lodge meeting or to Wednesday´s or Saturday´s poker club or to Tuesday´s or Thursday´s bowling or something like that, I will tell her to wait until the next evening to do the ironing. This gives her a little more time to do some of those odds and ends things like shampooing the dog, vacuuming, or dusting. Also, if I have had a really good day fishing, this allows her to gut and scale the fish at a more leisurely pace. Nancy is starting to complain a little occasionally. Not often, mind you, but just enough for me to notice. For example, she will say that it is difficult for her to find time to pay the monthly bills during her lunch hour. In spite of her complaining, I continue to try to offer encouragement. I tell her to stretch it out over two or even three days. That way she won´t have to rush so much. I also remind her that missing lunch completely now and then wouldn´t hurt her any, if you know what I mean. When doing simple jobs she seems to think she needs more rest periods than she used to have to take. A couple of weeks ago she said she had to take a break when she was only half finished mowing the yard. I overlook comments like these because I realize it´s just age talking. In fact, I try to not embarrass her when she needs these little extra rest breaks. I tell her to fix herself a nice, big, cold glass of freshly squeezed lemonade and just sit for a while. I tell her that as long as she is making one for herself, she may as well make one for me and take her break by the hammock so she can talk with me until I fall asleep. I could go on and on, but I think you know where I´m coming from. I know that I probably look like a saint in the way I support Nancy on a daily basis. I´m not saying that the ability to show this much consideration is easy. Many men will find it difficult. Some will find it impossible. No one knows better than I do how frustrating women can become as they get older. My purpose in writing this is simply to suggest that you make the effort. Irealize that achieving the exemplary level of showing consideration I have attained is out of reach for the average man. However guys, even if you just yell at your wife a little less often because of this article, I will consider that writing it was worthwhile.
