I&acute;d like to see a plus or minus sign on flood uploads...

So in the last day Skinbase as added 2 new little features. <br /> <br />Last 7 days skins and WP. <br />Best commenters. <br /> <br />Guys keep finding new ideas it seems that Mr. gRAVE is listening to his pupils.

not bashing anyone, just ranting because I know my designs suck too.... LOL

Hmmmmm.... In my opinion anyone can design a wallpaper and even the weirdest, dumbest, non creative 5 minute wallpaper designs get unbelievably high downloads... I think this provides confidence for the average joe shmoe with microsoft paint and an idea... Sometimes it&acute;s not even about the art, but about the competition. Where as being number one is all that matters and flooding becomes more and more frequent because of stats...I sit amazed every night as I&acute;m here with well thought out and slaved over designs that I&acute;ve uploaded, only to see them be drowned out by 1 wallpaper with 32billion variations....Overall how ever, wallpaper designs come effortlessly from most, which make them the number 1 skinning option in this community...For me it takes hours to actually sit down and skin both appz and my desktop...so either way there&acute;s a balance..I hate trying to skin appz especially when I don&acute;t use them....I need a skinning applications for dummies guide....bugzOut!

I think i&acute;m guilty of some of that trend going on. One of the reason is the lack of time. Real life is kiking in right now but i&acute;m still here daily and i&acute;m still uploading some of my labor. Trav&acute;s idea of 2 different table is good, Deskmod is already using this system and I like it alot. (/BruB: taps /gRAVE: &acute;s shoulde) <br /> <br />But the other major reason I stop skinning is the fact that I actually suck at it. I received to many comments about my stuff beeing to &quot;Photoshopy&quot; or too &quot;Eye Candy 4000&quot; at this point I started to think about this talent (please no pity, this is not a cry for comments) I always was a photographer and always taken pictures and that,s what i&acute;m good at (well I think). <br /> <br />The last point with this is too many skins are going to xml or other type of things I don&acute;t take time to learn. Skinning is now less of a passion but more of a passtime. I&acute;m the first one to say that if you uplaod here (or any other site) you can&acute;t do it for fame, but for yourself. But after a few comments agains&acute;t the artist and not agains&acute;t the artwork, it makes you wonder.

Hmmmm .. Some of my WPs take as long as a month to create PLUS up to 4 in the morn finishing. <br />Since I am terrible at SKINS and reported as #1 at Wallpapers, I have to side with the Snowman :smoke

Maybe there should be two differnt uploads tables. One for wallpapers, photo&acute;s and other one-.jpg-file stuff. And one for the skins etc.

Yeah its rather frustrating for the people who mostly do skins. You upload a skin then less than 2 hours later its kicked off the page by wallpapers,photos, and screenshots. Which means that nobody even notices you made a skin that took you a few weeks to months to make and nobody even really sees it. And the skin probably had a lot more work put into it. :( <br /> <br />Not that i&acute;d take anything away from some of the trully masterful wallpapers i&acute;ve seen that did have tons and tons of detail and preparation. But i&acute;ll just reiterate that its quite frustrating at times. <br />

As in telling people to not upload 31872 colour variatons of one wallpaper, but just upload a colour pack... But yet... I agree with the milion colour variation stuff... a collor variation pack woold be a perfecto solution since this site works with zip files... Maybe the site shoud have someone to be supervising(is that the word?) the news wallz and in a case of flood they would notify the author to put them in a color pack.. <br /> <br />One thing is for shure... my english sucks, but I hope u understand! ;)

I&acute;m somewhat inclined to agree. Of course i&acute;m not sure if removing wallpapers that &quot;aren&acute;t up to par&quot; like wincustomize would help or just piss off everyone. Personally I don&acute;t get many wp&acute;s from this site since there&acute;s just to much clutter to browse though. I mostly get wp&acute;s from deskmod since they have admin ratings to filter though them :)

Another thing that I think that may be causing this &quot;low quality&quot; wallpaper flood is that people chase this &quot;top uploader&quot; thing...and may be letting quality and variety behind...(o) hehehe!! <br />C ya guys...

Skinbase is happy with all kind of uploads, no exception with wallpapers! <br /> <br />There are always people that are saying this or that, it is the rule of life in general. SkinBase is not an exception in this case, because people they have their own voices and the right to say anything they feel like. <br /> <br />Maybe, there are 1.000.000 wallpapers in Internet, but don&acute;t forget that there are also 10.000.000 users with different tastes, so there is plenty of room for this <b> creative and noble hobby</b>. <br /> <br />As Snowman said, there are some good news for the wallpaper artists/users and SkinBase in general, just wait a little bit :)

Hang tight there folks - in the near future Skinbase will go through some radical changes which benefits both application skinners and wall/art/photo makers.....

As I have mentioned in another thread, there will be some changes here on Skinbase in the near future concerning skins and walls - more about that later :)

my two cents... <br /> <br />I think all sites ( that can afford it of course) should just let the ppl upload their walls and then every 6 mos (or when necessary) you just assign an admin to do a quick sweep that way ppl get to share their stuff atleast for a while rather then be rejected? <br /> <br />just a suggestion since I own no site I have no clue what is the perfect solution to making everyone happy but that might do the trick as a temporary fix cuz it lets ppl feel the joy alittle w/ the rest of the famous wallpaper makers...

I thought this was Skinbase, a site that WELCOMES wallpapers, not like Wincustomise, that actively discourages people from uploading wallpapers... Am I Mistaken? <br />If so, I will very graciously decline from uploading any more of my wallpapers here just as I did at WC... <br />It&acute;s your call.

As a dinosaur from the 60&acute;s still think the best rule is no rule at all, and that´s not anarchy guys, just if everyone behaves. I´ve seen skins and wp´s that claim having taken eons to make and are real ugly for my own taste. On the other hand, many real simple wp´s and skins are just beautiful. When I did skinning, I usually was fed up of the dam skin many days before I could finally had it ready and then a stupid guy would comment ¨yeah, but this and that, and you should have done this and that¨ , Wp´s on the other hand, are pure joy creating, take a little time and relax my stressed mind a lot more. It doesn´t please some guys? I don´t care! I´m not selling anything! We´re all sharing our stuff! And after all the Internet is just as cruel and unfair as real life, maybe more! :D

Personally I think the people bashing wallpapers here are just jealous because they have no talent at making wallpapers so they have to justify their lack of ability by putting down those who DO have talent.....

that all depends, some people spend ages on a wallpaper, and i can make a few skins in a day if i had the ideas... that&acute;s not a really informed statement to make. and not a fair one either.

People dont make as many skins because they take longer there making them but a wallpaper, cheaply done, can talk like 20min&acute;s where skinning a program dakes AGES!

Compare: one single, big rectangle of dead space versus several GUI elements that need arranging, shape giving and in that last sense need to share shape traits. <br /> <br />2. This leads to a severe unbalance in the up- and downloads. To such an extent that one might wonder whether site X is a site with skins and walls or a wallpaper site with a number of rather devoid sections labelled &quot;skins&quot; that serve an unknown person <br /> <br />3. So does one come here to enjoy skins and wallpapers or should we just scratch that first one? <br /> <br /> <br />And that, oh grass hopper, is the situation at hand.

crae pretty much summed it up, most ppl do not want to open up .ini or .txt files and look at Alien lingo to try to figure out how to skin things, they want to pop open a graphic app and begin to have immediate & easy gradification w/ no sweat = wallpaper. <br /> <br />wallpapers gives us something to look at while the others ppl are working on skins in between so w/o wallpapers we&acute;d be few and far between on new uploads to view that keep us entertained... <br /> <br />also there is that 1% that put more into their walls then some do making a skin such as Nuvem and a few other great wallpaper artist

I think everybody who is doing Wallpapers is doing something creative - and even if it is just a simple 2 to 3 color picture. Its STILL better than playing computer the whole day or smoking - drinking! ;-) <br /> <br />I&acute;m not saying that I dont do this stuff, but you know... Making Wallpapers makes me happy, and I like to work with Photoshop as it is a brilliant program.. <br /> <br />-statement_ Full Stop- ;)

I love making wallpapers too, and working with The Gimp wich IS a brilliant program (and a free and open source one at that !) ! Not working with the same tool than most makes me believe I am creative LOL !
