I also play Counterstrike and all those BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAD games ;) but in the end of the day I´m sitting AGAIN infront of Photoshop or Bryce trying to mix some nice colors...

instead of making the most headshots in a row ;)

I think that it is true that Wallpaper creation can be soothing, because--after all--wallpaper is what you come back to looking at time and again as you go through the day at your computer.

It is also easier for those that have the knack to create wallpapers more quickly once an idea springs to life. Creating a skin for an app starts with an idea, but often comes down to logistics. Measuring pixel to pixel, etc.

Not to mean that skinning apps is more difficult than wallpaper creation. They are both difficult and require skill in their own way.

In the end, I think there are just more wallpaper makers than app skinners out there. :,

Take it as you will.

The fact is [and will always remain] that skinning does require a higher level of skill and a lot more dedication [including available time]

Wallpapers are usually done in matter of minutes or hours [depending on the design, the program used and the speed of the artist computer] While skins are done by putting together numerous of images that must be design individually. After the design part is completed, they must be coded and tweaked for the final result. Then comes the testing process to make sure that everything works accordantly and that there are no glitches in the performance of the skin.

A full skin will take somewhere between 3 days to a week, again depending on the time invested by the author.

I totally agree with Apocalypse_67. It seems to me that a wallpaper just sorta happens. And a skin starts that way too. But once the initial insiration hits, and you have that basic idea for your skin, it becomes a matter of dedication. Creating all of the little segments for a skin takes time and effort. Unless you REALLY care, or REALLY want to create the skin, it´s easy to say "Well, that wallpapers probably good enough"

can“t say i would care anymore. that whole "skinning community" thing is pretty lame. with the exception of the Winamp scene i don“t see much progress and skinning skills anyways. but who cares.
