Visual Styles file format

Yeah I know I can do that but what I want is the actually formats of these files. <br /> <br />What I want to do is to create my own prog to allow for the creation of visual styles and shell styles. <br /> <br />And yes, I know that I can use StyleXP but none-the-less, I want to write my own prog. <br /> <br />So, where can I find the formats of these files? <br /> <br />Dr. CyKuhTic is in office . . . <br />

the file format is DLL. believe it or not. stored inside these files are text files (XML for example) and raster images (24 & 32-bit BMP, ICO). <br />http://filext.com/detaillist.php?extdetail=dll <br /> <br />to be honest, i have doubts you are the right person to write such a program if you have to ask about that. :/

fine, fine ... good luck with your project then. <br />in the past msstyles have been done with resource hacking programs. StyleBuilder by TGTSoft is a resource hacker as well. seems you want to try a different approach. i suggest to search for help on a site dedicated to coding.

yep, and i doubt any of them would suggest him/her anything else than building a resource hacker ;)

SInce it is a proprietary format, I&acute;ll doubt you&acute;ll find anything about the format, other than info disected by hackers.

I&acute;d like an explaination/resource, also, that tells you what the the settings and lines of code in the shellstyle.dll actually are. I just want to change the font colour of the titles of the &quot;Common Tasks&quot; explorer bar, but I don&acute;t know which of the many lines of code in the dll file I need to change. I&acute;m done with trial and error. I&acute;ve seen many people ask for an explanation of the CODE in the shellstyle.dll on the Web, but haven&acute;t found one instance of a resource. <br /> <br />Anyone? <br /> <br />Cheers

Goldy, get yourself the tgtsoft free resource editor, Resbuild, best for these things, open up a shellstyle.dll and browse around UIFile section, all should be there. <br /> <br />http://www.tgtsoft.com/
