OP
I used dBPowerAmp for a while, and it´s a nice piece of software.
Unfortunately the skinning engine wasn´t so good, and it gave me a lot of unwanted grief.
The codecs on Spoons site are great though!

thanks for the comment. yes the skin engine needs improvements and there was some discussion a while ago about the improvements needed. i guess other things took priority for a while.

i guess it is the skin engine we need more testing and feedback on. but having said that there are some great skins made using the skin engine. but we just need more artists willing to show off how great dbpoweramp can look.

I´m not doubting the quality, or the sincerity of the skinners, and having spent some time on the forum I know there are some good guys there. In fact I made two skins for the Amp, one of which I was really quite pleased with.
However when the skinning engine went funny on me it left something in my old system (98SE) that then wouldn´t allow me to reload any of the skins properly, even after uninstalling the engine, and a complete un/reinstall of the Amp it still wouldn´t skin properly. I never did track the damn offending item down.
Result? I stopped using dBPA, and never went back to it even after I got my new pc & system. I didn´t want to risk the same thing happening on the new machine
Anyway, I´m only telling you my experience.
