What a photographer must do....

OP
I agree, first are the essentials. For me, as a painter, it is good quality oil colours, old and new brushes, canvas, easel. Then everything could be subject. Of course you depict where your interest lies, constructions, nature, people..etc.
We all learn about composition, use of colour, the way to finish a work. Then, your individuality comes to speak, and if your work appeals to the viewer, in other words you have established a dialog, you have probably reached your goal. For me the stage of finishing a work is the most rewarding moment. The excitement of getting it the way I like it is addictive, and so I paint and paint and paint and...paint. Or make photographs for that matter. I do not think I am a good photographer because I actually use them for memory support in my paintings. I have noticed there is a difference however, a good photograph might not necessarily be a good painting. So lately I have been looking for contrasts, light, shadows. Some shots I have made in the burned part of the Moondarra state forest have been quite rewarding. The landscapes are so surreal, with black soil and scorched trees. I kept on walking through it and discovering new visual beauties. The trees had begun reshooting new tiny branches on the stems and ferns started regrowing on the black soil. I have never been in such an environment and for me it was heaven, although it would have been hell for the animals and plants....

What I have tried here on skinbase with my latest photograps, is making them more 3D like with the help of some photo-editing software. It´s fun to play with satutarion and contrast/brightness as well as changing the actual colours. It is challenging and opens a new field of expertise which I am still learning...Talking about learning, you will never stop to learn, once you stop, your improvements stop.

Well said lecrayon and I am happy that a painter like yourself took part on this thread. And although i am a fair photographer, I could never paint, as I do not know how. Ir is evident that i could learn, but I am focused on photography for too many years - 35 to be precise - and I am still learning a lot of things.

Thanks for your comments :Happy

Thanks Joost, but I am remodelling my own site and will show all my work there - as I had it before, just compiling all my BW film work and colour positives - the compillation starts back in 1971 - but until then, only here at Skinbase, I do not have the time to upload to other sites. It is very time-consuming and I like very much to be here and share at SB. Thanks for the advice and interest. :Happy

Oh...where can I see your work? Nevertheless, I can understand you , I did the same, twice, in two other sites I had my work, not because the comments posted on the work itself - generally good ones - but by the arrogant atitude of their owners and moderators. The problem is that we are not equally understood by others, - what pleases me and what I can understand, it is not the same with yourself, but that´s part of life itself. Tell me where can I see your work, I am most interested to see it.Please.... :Happy

Well, a friend of mine believes photography is a physical thing.. and you should be willing to get dirty for it. Like crawling through the dirt, laying down on the road (don´t ask, I always wanted to know what that would be like) or stepping into the river. I also agree with Jamaunzie and knowing your equipment. Also, I like to look at my subjects from every angle possible.
