Read it, thanks. Interesting! If they stay affordable, OK. Otherwise the next alternative turns up. Used to use free DX browser multitabbing + autoscrolling long before. Cool thing are the plugins. Security oh well hmh. Plus its only 1 of my browsers.

The plugins were by a lot of good spirits. Will they still upload if it gets commercial? That could have consequences. If she splits the money to all the uploaders - its like gone and each only gets peanuts. Shame.

Watching this. :sen
Well Mick...I think she is quite right in what she says.....you need money to run things like web sites and information bases and mail boxes. etc. They don´t run themselves. There is no mention of charging for Firefox which says to me that the same spirit is in operation. Free browser of top quality with extensions given away too. Still a damned good deal. I question the 18 month life of Firefox though because it was around longer than that as Firebird. Firebired and Firefox are the same browser. It simply underwent a name change due to copyright issues I believe. A browser which is overlooked because of its lack of bells and whistles is K-Meleon. It is a tabbed browser also and is just that little bit faster and smoother in loading than Firefox and comes out of the same stable. It has been my browser of preference for a long time due to the fact I got tired of hunting down new versions of extensions to match upgrades in Firefox. It seems the extension guys cannot keep pace with the growth of the browser and there is always a dwell time where the extension guys upgrade the extension to make it compatible with the latest browser release. If they can iron the problem out there they are away and laughing. Not being a coder I have difficulty understanding why the extension do not work in every version of the browser. Surely there must be a way to make them universal for all versions. :congrats

I am going to be honest: I never understood the big fuss about Firefox, really. I do not like it as I think that Opera is a better, also free and fastest browser. Probably I am wrong, but is works for me. My sons run Firefox and yet...I do not think it´s a great browser. Just my opinion.... :Happy

Exactly Artur....Firefox is good but far from perfect. It is simply the current colour of the month.

Snowman also uses Opera - a good sign. Handy too, cause sometimes we can compare results when I am troubleshooting a page.

Good point about extension compatibility. At least it keeps u autoinformed on extension updates a bit if you like. But its time consuming. Example - free Stardownloader added its own plugin in firefox 1.07.

With 1.503 firefox - not compatible. But FlashGot handles that - took time to find out, though. And FlashGot is different. With other advantages and disadvantages. Interesting about the old name of firefox. Didnt know that.

So many things to check out - if something works halfway good I often just stick to awhile even when I know something else exists that is probably better. Later you have to change away. Time flies. Have to use it carefully - otherwise you are always hip and can never use things at all.

Bit surprised even outside the official firefox theme site I don´t find many themes that change the looks and functions much, nothing but ports following minimalistac blah trends. On the other hand, its all free - and alternatives in the past also had disadvantages for me. Opera is my next test I guess. Even NetScape one day to see how to help Mom etc. Who knows.

Sure, if people do good things and struggle, they can get some return for a living bit by bit as I can afford it. Which is why testing periods should be longer. I even talked some developers into that regarding other tools. Hopefully I can also agree without being wrong, I dont think that lady intends to be another Bill Gates. In fact, if she were, the power balance might help for other things...

What I cant afford just makes me improvise - good to stay in practice at that, too ;)

Well put Taxi.....y´know prior to Firebird it was known as Phoenix and in some ways Phoenix was more user friendly than Firefox. Sometimes I think people get carried away with improving things that they complicate them more than they need to be. Phoenix and Firebird both had a greater selection of themes too.

Phoenix - gee! :fun Get a load of THAT. Calls for a separate category in bookmarks, all the browsers. Need to reorganize that. Knowledge of + experience with these things explain + facilitate understanding and finding new viewpoints.

I suppose it´s inevitable that revenue is going to be generated when so many people are using the browser, let´s just hope that the money gets used for future development, and not employee perks.

[[ Never tried Opera, but I might give it a go. I used to use Avant which was pretty fast and easy to use, but it misbehaves with my new ADSL router, so I stopped using it.]]

Try Opera Mick and Toby. But tri the lastest stable version, 8.xxx, not the beta 9 version. Probably you do not like it, but its a good browser. On the Ie based ones, I used Deepnet, an excelent, tabbed and simple alternative to IE. And as Toby said, we have to create a singhle folder to test browsers.

I have tried however the new IE7, which apparently was kind of nice. Will wait. until then, Opera rules...for GT :Happy
