It needs prudence when dealing with rips. The general rule of thumb is any copyright image used by someone either on its own or incorporated in a design is not permissible and is breach of copyright. If an image of such is used then it must be with the permission of the original artist or photographer or creator. Acknowledgement of that artists work must be made when displaying said work or it misleads people to percieve the work is your own. Providing all the above is met then you are home and free. No problem. In my experience the most prolific offenders are those in the current fad of anime. Great discussion and debate was held at deviantART over the matter and due to the arrogance and ignorance of anime artists on that site and their refusal to comply with copyright law they found themselves without a section. Some people think copyright law is there to prevent them from creating. It is there to protect the originating artists work. Artists put a good deal of time and effort into their work and are generally incensed when, for want of a better term, a freeloader comes along and uses their art to pad their own ego or pocket riding on the talent of someone else. Most artists find the behaviour abhorrent, intolerable and downright insulting. As I say though, great care needs to be taken when accusing people of being rip artists. Sometimes you immediately think it is one way when in fact it is something completely different. :congrats ๐ ;)
I´ve already cleaned his gallery. And Gerry I am so sorry about this and all the work you did on that photo. I think this must be the season for rips. They are really hitting hard right now. โค๏ธ

Thanks very much for your action and informations Desirex, I guess it is the time we will let to him to clean his gallery before doing it by ourselves.
Gerry, I suppose you should remove a variation of a rip, even if you were honest, you could be blame by the author. And your gallery don´t need that ;)
About the why, I´m like everybody here : I don´t understand but there is so many on the web, I find another on saturday at Basehead who don´t bother to remove the adress of the sites where he dowload his rips. The worst is that when I write to a ripper, he don´t understand and said that I´m a poor guy who take pleasure to annoy people...

I thought about that Gerry and I don´t know. You asked permission to rework something. He gave you permission but it wasn´t his. Anybody got an answer?

I have recieved an e-mail from Webshots and copy of which was also e-mailed to him.
They are so nice, they let him 48 hours to "remove or disable links" or else they will forward the matter to their Copyright Agency.

Well, and again, I do not understand why people do this. The worst, I feel completely stupid, after giving !0 my comments about...works that were not from him. I agree with Auline, when she says that we should put a watermark or alikes on our works. I put always something on my images but bear in mind that this will not stop rippers , as they would cut the image or works in order to take away the watermark or any mark you put on the image.I am still astonished, believe me...!!! :(

Yrgal we are just giving him a chance to take care of the problem himself.

Now, he is being given a chance to clean out his own gallery so let´s give that a chance to happen. It´s always better when they remove things on their own. โค๏ธ

Recognition, coverage, attention, those are the forces driving rippers.

It´s like buying a fancy car and say "hey, look at my fancy car". Yeah, great car, too bad about the poser driving it.

The thing that I don´t understand is the why too Aaron. And the fact that a ripper always gets caught. It may take a little time but some where down the line, he will make a mistake. They all do. Unfortunately nothing is gained by the ripper except the low opinion of fellow members. Fortunately SB is full of wonderful, creative artists and that´s what I care about. โค๏ธ

I´m thinking that maybe when we upload a photo or image we could perhaps put a personal small watermark on, that would put other people of from stealing the work. Just an idea what do you think? :Smile
I agree with Artur. I could understand someone ripping art if he could, for example, sell the art and make money. I said understand, not aprove it. In fact pictures, songs, books (see Da Vinci Code affair) have been fighting with plagiarism since the man is on earth. But here we are talking of something different. When I make a wall or a skin I enjoy the process to create it. I spend hours making changes, variations, colours...you know. When I´m satisfied with the result I post it and I feel happy to have created something that I like. Then, people start downloading it and I feel much more happy, because someone is enjoying something I created. And at the end, your nice comments also make me feel good. So, nothing of this happens to the one who rips. You have 400 downloads and 20 comments saying you are a great artist...but you aren´t...and you know it. So, where is the pleasure?. Greetings to all Skinbasers. :Happy

lol, Captain America.
nudity is permited in most customizing communities such as this one along with Wincustomize and DevART. what´s bad is that Skins.BE is the owner of all of them. He removed the (C) notes that show that.
Glad I know about it. We cant feature stuff like this. Now I am removing favorites and from buddies - not that I hate him and his taste. Sets a bad example to highlight stealing, though. Not necessary + not how it works. Some people are a bit young + underestimate things (I will never be sure whos really sitting there).

If you credit, get permits, or make a variation its different. Some just alter 2 pixels, that backfires in the long run. Thanks for report, a serious case :(

When browsing through and correcting my favorites, I saw he was in contests and even gave permits to OTHER artists for a variation. Now what do other serious artists feel like who worry about a permit but never know for sure where THEIR supplier get its from? Sure lucky that didnt happen to me yet.

I checked out this gallery in question. Lots of nudes and stuff I don´t consider ´art´ but that kinda stuff gets major downloads. I could see ´nipples´ in the Bobby Billard wallpaper, for this reason my thirteen year old son doesn´t visit this site and others with the same mentioned ´art´, (sub art). Anyway, to me his gallery is a big joke, who said that, I said that and a whole lot of other people who don´t have the extra two minutes to type it. I have a forty word per minute speed and don´t mind letting others know that ´crap´ is crap. Be original or stay off public sites with your ´RIPS´ of porn taste. Yes, the truth hurts, and it will set you free as well. :adminpk :congrats :aw ๐ ๐ ๐ ๐
