The download is over 3gig big. It is an ISO image that you have to burn to DVD before you can install. You can order the DVD for about 10 bucks.

I don´t know, Bro...
I downloaded a copy (ordered one too) and been playing with it today but it seems awfully slow and sluggish so far...plus it uses some serious resources. I´m using an AMD64 and 2 gig of ram but still it´s bogging it down quite a bit. I realize it´s Beta so maybe they´ll lighten the load and dump some of the junk before final release...otherwise it´ll be awhile before I consider a switch. :-)
(It is purty though... :D)

I agree with you entirely...what makes me laugh is at the beginning they said XP could never produce glass effects like Vista....skinners have proved them wrong on that count. Every new issue of a microsoft OS comes with wallpapers that are pixelated to hell and generally shocking examples of digital art....interfaces created by geeks on mogadon....I mean when you look at the wealth of talent around the OS could look a lot better if they encouraged people like Kol and Jemaho instead of threatening them. Gates makes plenty of money and he could have saved a lot more if as you say he had sunk it into a new edition of XP which as you say they have already spent a lot of time on. Microsoft for all its mouth and trousers is still the slowest download site on the internet and I quit getting updates because everytime they came onboard nine times out of ten my system would develop problems. I now have smoother running without them. Employ a good security system and keep it clean and most problems do not happen. :congrats ๐Ÿ˜Ž ;)

We saw this carry on before with the introduction of X95 which people had a lot of problems with, 98 needed a second edition... ME and 2000 more or less flunked in the marketplace... and when reincarnated as XP needed SP packs and a miriad of patches to stabilise, and yet still M$ want to force another unfinished, unnecessary and for the most unwanted product onto punters.. instead of doing the sensible thing which IMO would be to hone XP into the acceptable world standard in OS´s.

Based on current stock figures BG is worth $27.38 billion... about time he spent some of it on giving his customers what they actually want!
I find it amusing you menioned ME.That was the first system I ever used and heard all these people bagging it and yet because I learnt computing on it I never had a problem with it and still don´t today.People complained of it crashing yet it never crashed on me once and still hasn´t. I agree that all new computers will have it installed and accept that. Point is it irks me that automatic obselence for the sake of continued sales is becoming the hallmark of software producers. Take Iconpackager as a classic example. 2.5 worked perfectly fine until they brought out 3 and then all icons made after that will not work in 2.5. It is forcing people to purchase new versions whether they are better or not. In Vista´s case....I have a Pentium 4 as I said earlier and the graphics card is fine for what I do. If I want to upgrade to Vista I have to look at more or less buying a whole new computer simply so I can get the full benefit of Vista´s graphics. Sure I could put a high end graphics card in but the sheer size of Vista would leave me with less room on my drive than I have now so I would be losing to instal it. I like the computer I have and spent a lot of time looking into the pro´s and con´s of it before I bought it....it will take more than Vista and the little it offers in return, before I will upgrade my whole computer and buy a new one so I can have glass effects which really,to me, is its only advantage...it is no more secure than XP nor any more efficient at doing general tasks. Sure one day I will have no option but to upgrade...the run on Vista free download will predominantly come from youth. How many parents will wake to find their offspring have loaded a system on their home computer that it does not have the grunt to run? ๐Ÿ˜‚ ๐Ÿ˜‚ ๐Ÿ˜‚

Maybe...
I remember when I went from win98 to XP I thought the same thing, guess it just takes some getting used to. Still, it sure would be nice if operating systems would actually get faster as they progress...but wouldn´t they be dull without all that extra bling! :-)

QUOTE(Bink.nu)

In an instant message chat, Microsoft has told the Windows Featured Communities that the demand for Windows Vista Beta 2 has been overwhelming. It is, in fact, the largest downloaded software in history. Currently, they are serving product keys out ten times faster then the downloads can be served. In fact, they are pumping out bits as fast as they can - any faster and there would be a measurable impact on the internet. In fact, I quote a Microsoft representive:

"So, we are literally saying that if we increased our bandwidth any further there´s a possibilty of taking down the Internet - people might have problems with World Cup viewing, etc"

People who have recieved Vista Beta 2 product keys, but are unable to download, may need to wait a few days, up to one week. Microsoft encoruages users who want to try out Windows Vista Beta 2 to order the DVD. When they recieve the DVD in 1-4 weeks, install it, and activate it, they will be automattically guaranteed an RC1 upgrade

Source: Bink.nu, in house
View: here http://www.aeroxp.org/board/index.php?showtopic=4059
:Happy

navigatsio Good evening bro...you know I think we are gonna be seeing a lot of improvement in the RC1 . Basiically this was released to about 2 million people because Microsoft wants the feedback. To tell you the truth I am looking forward to seeing the final release. :Happy

mountainhawk Hi...I agree that they are gonna push it but you gotta remember that by the end of the year they are gonna be releasing Vista to all computer manufacturers and that anybody buying a new computer say beingging next year will already have it installed. So push it, yeah, to a limit but hey they already have the market ! As for bugs I have seen a lot worse. Do you remember Millenium? Worse OS Miscrosoft ever made!
:Happy

You got it navigatsio! That is why I took it off my computer...I couldn´t use a lot of my graphics apps and it ran like a pig and I have a Pentium 4 and 1240mb of ram. I stuck ram boosters on and it did nothing to help. Finding stuff on it was a nightmare too with its new file system. If they haven´t got it running close to how it should by now they should just dump it and move the resources into a new version of XP. They spent enough time getting that right and in a way XP is still a work in progress. You need to ask yourself if this is what Vista is like now, how many more years before it is actually user friendly.

Point is they are going to push Vista because of all the time and effort they have put in. It has more bugs than XP ever had and as I said is almost three times bigger in size compared to XP. They have already dropped many of the features they planned to ship it with and IE7 has a long way to go before it can even come close to IE6. At least IE6 consistently renders images whereas my experience with it shows it has great difficulty rendering pages of images such as the front page here. I think Vista in general is overhyped. The other disadvantage is a lot of regular apps won´t function on it. Until they make it more user friendly and capable of using all applications a lot of people simply will not bother with it. We want operating systems that are not only secure but ones we can use whatever applications we want on them like systems of the past. Paul Thurrot is an ex microsoft employee so any info from him is generally biased but I have noticed tha even his enthusiasm has been dented recently. :congrats

I would be interested if I hadnt just bought a new computer with Media Center Edition on it. I saw that they did however release the Internet Explorer 7 Beta version... That is a nice change... I use Mozilla Firefox for some internet activities.. but some dont view right for me.. so IE7 Beta is very nice....

just a thought.

I agree with Iain... reading through the speil I can´t see any advantage that I´d gain from filling almost 10% of my HD with a bunch of "features" that I would never use anyway.
As it is I rarely use most of what shipped with XP.

I´m staying outside with the dinosaurs ๐Ÿ˜‚

I have to say that once upon a time we got operating systems that fitted on a 700mb disk. In excess of 3GB is overkill and a statement that things have become more complicated than they need to be. At the end of the day having run Vista.....XP is by far the more stable and user friendly of the two and takes up less space and will function on most current systems. Vista´s only selling point in my view is its graphics. To run those you need a high end graphics card and a lot of ram and a sizeable hard drive. This is its downfall as many people will not be bothered replacing a perfectly good computer to run it. I will stick with XP for the forseeable future.
