OP
CA does stuff I like with photoshop. (price: |:| ) 1 day after reading all the tuts I bookmarked and finding the right combination while dithering and resampling it might get better when I use SkinStudio´s position for that. BootXP 2.5 almost extinct + uncool.

Some more right here at SB under the other thread:

http://www.skinbase.org/msgboard.php?topicid=1915
Bootskins are a funny and very picky about light and color.
When you work with Walls JPEG or TIFF you have about 250 million colors to work with not to mention shadows and fading and such. Bootskin will only allow you 16 colors to work with and then it is still frustrating. I guess the best I can tell you is Simple is better. For when you go to Change your color to 16 ( I cross my fingers ). You will see if the results are good or bad I hope for something in the middle and then I go into the Platte and hand adjust what I can to try and make all that work worth showing off.
As for programs I use ADOBE Photo Elements, Paint Shop Pro 10, and Microsoft Photo Editor. Photo Elements My Favorite. But I use Paint Shop Pro to convert to 16 Bit and alien the progress bar. I wish you luck and any help I can give please ask.
Also all those other ones like PCtools and such don’t work well and I have had my Computer Crash and had to go to safe mode to uninstall to get my computer to boot up again so be careful Bootskins are very touchy
OOPS almost for got
I use Bootskin by Stardock never had a problem with it Stardock BootSkin is a program that allows users to change their Windows 2000 and Windows XP boot screens.

Unlike other programs that can change the Windows XP boot screens, BootSkin does so in a safe manner. It doesn´t patch the Windows XP kernel. Nor does it require the user to download replacement Windows XP kernels to do so.

Boot screens that use BootSkin are typically under 20K compared to other boot screen programs whose files are over 2 MEGABYTES.

And best of all, BootSkin is free for non-commercial use.

http://www.stardock.com/products/bootskin/
