I own a widescreen laptop, but the size Iain mentions looks fine. Thats basically what I choose, unless I occasionally come across a wide image. I would think in the future that wide would become more popular, but for now - I´d agree. Keep it simple. And I´m willing to say that there are some who probably don´t even know what a zip file is, or how to work with it. Perhaps those people should not be downloading anything. But thats an argument for another day.

Thanks for the post Tommy!!
:Happy It just so happens Im working on a wallpaper panorama Im wondering if you could recomend some sizes.
Most common used sizes are 800x600,1024x768 and 1280x960 followed by most popular of 1280x1024. Look for the thread Nikos(adni) started contractartist! :congrats ๐ ;)
Not correct Iain,
the most common resolution still is 1024x768 with big difference from the second which is 1280x1024.

Here is what I wrote to the other thread:

Screen Resolutions Statistics

1. 1024x768 47.99%

2. 1280x1024 24.53%

3. 800x600 6.56%

4. 1280x800 5.63%

5. 1152x864 4.85%

6. 1440x900 2.15%

7. 1280x768 1.80%

8. 1280x960 1.48%

9. 1600x1200 1.35%

10.1680x1050 1.19%

;)
On the left of each FOLDER, not desktop window, windows XP robs space with either a folder tree or menu sidebar. 90 percent of wallz I collect are ALSO set as perma backgrounds to the millions of subfolder windows I already listed as not wallpapered yet... Means 1024 is fine unless upper left corner NEXT to sidebar is too MULTICOLORY because files are ALWAYS in upper left and only SOMETIMES all over window left over. Multicolor means no icon text color is visible clearly against it so you cant read folder names in nicely walled window.

Of course, art is art so that shouldnt matter. But I always like a SECOND bigger size to be there for DT and its changer. 1600 is often just a bad blown up version of something modeled in a smaller screen, while photos often show the opposite, small size compressed to strong, original was LARGER than 1600.

1280x960 only works on my dt when my taskbars cover up the rest if I keep aspect ratio. But mostly, they DO cover it up, got bars all around desktop so its almost as good as 1280x1024 for me (on laptop its 1024x768), the PREVIEW can be smaller than 1024 if rest is in zip because that adds a greeting card format and it loads fast in all browsers when folks are still deciding.

To be honest, I dont do this perfectly myself either, depends on how much changing size ruins the already controversial original ho hum but I am working on and learning stuff, cya :brb
Sorry Nikos...anyway at 1280x1024 it covers those under that size and therefore the majority. Most people have photo editors so they can reduce from 1280X1024 with no loss of image quality. I actually make mine at that size because it suits my desktop and I learnt during the GUI stuff why I don´t make zips full of different sizes. I end up with a bloated picture folder. I do what is simplest for me. Sorry to the 1600X1200 and above people but I cater for the majority. :congrats ๐ ;)
I render at 1680x1424 then reduce from there but I never keep the larger size......It gets overwritten in the saving process when I reduce. :congrats ๐ ;)
Well, whatever you do works Iain! Keep it up!! :congrats
