thanks again !!!!! :Happy
ShellEnhancer or Glass2K are the two best apps for transparency....I use Shell Enhancer as it is more comprehensive and governable than Glass2K. :congrats ๐ ;)
Another thing you may want to try is Vista Transformation pack 5.5 which is created by WindowsX. It transforms your entire computer to look like Vista and changes icons and bootskins and log on screens and sounds plus there is a selectrion of Wallpapers and ms styles created by the author in Vista style. I use it as a base and you can still load other styles too. It comes with Glass2K and LClock and other goodies. CrystalXP.com also has Bricko packs which are transformation packs also. All these things are great fun. :congrats ๐ ;)
Actual transparency (using transparent/semi-transparent .pngs, .tgas, etc.) without a solid background (start menu, taskbar, etc.) for them to sit on isn´t possible yet in .msstyles. There´s only magic pinky tricks to make it appear transparent although without semi-transparency, it´s hard to get a really good see thru effect, true glass, etc. <br /> <br />If you´re using StyleXP, you can adjust the transparency throughout...if not, as Iain suggested, there are programs out there to accomplish transparent effects. :-) <br /> <br />
Rick if you download an ms style from deviantART called Vector and use Shell enhancer you get effects coming off that style on the taskbar etc that is not prevalent in other styles. I have no idea what the author did that is different as I do noit understand coding but what I do know is you get the closest thing to glass that I have ever seen. It looks like the icons are floating in the glass bar. :congrats ๐ ;) ....it may also be due to another anomaly on my system too as I loaded a longhorn transformation setting into the registry that was designed for longhorn to assist with transparency in enabling glass effect. I still have that zip on disc. I would be happy to let you have a copy of both files if you want them Rick as I am sure you would be able to work out what is going on and use it in future styles. Remember when Longhorn and Vista was first mooted they said glass was impossible on XP? Now look at what is happening. I am quite confident that given the right tweaks XP can be every bit as awesome as Vista and more reliable. :congrats ๐ ;) ....some bright spark will come up with a code.
Thanks Iain...I´ll have to check that out, my friend! :-) <br />Oh I´ve tried many times to make .pngs, .tgas, etc. stand alone in the start menu, taskbar, etc. and they´ve either left them totally black or crashed the skin all together. I can and do use .pngs everywhere else in a .msstyle but in some of the main parts, I just can´t get (or force) them to take in any bit size , alpha channel preserved and all. If anyone knows how to make ´em take, I´d LOVE to know how... :-)
thanks a bunch guys and those links! ๐บ
I do know of a wiget make into a stand alone executable by desktopX which was made to look and act exactly like vista windows explorer. It has transparency just were it should, however the author did not continue with the development to add a menu bar to the top. You can anly click through folders and click back, no folder options, just a search bar and adress bar. But way cool though :fun :aw
Yes.....I have seen and played with that one myself.......there is an ms style that is in the archives of devART.That is made up of lots of strips of black....if I recall Butch converted it for windowblindsIn fact if you work your way to where that ms style is there are a couple that came out at that time giving the impression of glass and they are quite fun to use. :congrats ๐ ;)
I went digging but found nothing I was looking for.The site is lacking in an ordered brouse feature. I am open to the option that I have overlooked some simple option for a more refined search. โ Is there a direct link on hand?
I understand what you are saying. As usual devART has complicated what was a simple system and in no need of change and totally screwed it. I can only suggest you get yourself to the Visual styles section and work back on the time frame selections at the top. You could also google for glass ms styles. :congrats ๐ ;)
I like the desktopX widget, yes sort of remember it on the right maybe just my settings. I apply transparency to whole window with another tool but you dont want ALL transparent. Interesting. Sounds good to work it from the skin end ๐
