Very important rule and can be the making of an image. It creates optical balance. Similar to never putting anything dead center.....it should always be slightly above center if it is in the middle or else if it is exact center it gives the appearance of dropping off the bottom of the image. Slightly off center,left or right justified draws the eye to the chosen subject...all of what you have said is very good advice Artur! :congrats 😎 ;)

Iain, as you said and proven by some of your works,I really think this is not a photographic rule, but an image making rule...that can be broken. Its nice to brake rules. :Happy
Ahhh, the one of the beach...well I think it is a bit unbalanced for the left side, unless you were not really facing it straight ahead. I am seeing it with grids on PhotoFiltre and probably is a false idea or vision. Now...I am not as sure as I was. Sorry mate.But it seems unbalanced to the left...well, I do not know, what i know is that it is a very nice capture. As to being a photography teacher, let me tell you one thing: when I was graduating my self in London in 1978, I gave photo lessons during an year,for the guys and gals that were taking the photography school there, each time their teatcher - an american lady, great photographer, could not attend classes . I teached everything related with film, analogue cameras,developping, enlarging, composing, help to choose paper grades, film speed, lenses, etc etc etc -We had there a complete darkroom and I used to give them assignments ( which I also used to do in order to compare results and share ideias ) and let me tell you...it was really fun, probably one of my nicest times with photography.Part of the captures of those times will be uploaded in due time, here, at Skinbase. :Happy |O|

I was referring to my shot of the beach Artur ... and I asked if you were a teacher of photography - as I feel you should be. You have a lot to offer young, aspiring photographers. You call it sharing - and it is, but its also teaching - you´ve taught me quite a bit! <br /> <br /> ;)
You´re right Fred, in St Patricks capture, you could not do any better if your purpose was to catch all the front main building.Even the people on the lower part of the capture, was a good decision of yours to keep then in ,in order to balance.Otherwise and if you wanted to avoid them, you should be nearer the building, with another perspective but you would not catch all the front of the building, unless you used a , let´s say, 20mm wide angle or even wider ( I suppose you used your lens at its wider focal length wich is 28mm).So as far as I am concerned, its a good overall capture. :congrats

However I would be more than happy to have a school to pass my humble knowledgement to young photographers.Photography is one of the most affordable kind or expression you can have.
