Not surprising at all Mick is it!...I mean a short jaunt to Torrent files shows you how insecure Vista is. Already there are a staggering amount of workarounds etc to acquire the OS free. I stick to what I said a little while back. This will be one great disaster and a huge loss for MS financially. I got a copy from a tech friend of mine to try and I took it off after a day and my system is more than able to run it at optimum. I completely agree with the review. What I laugh at is MS said XP would never cope with glass effects. Why am I looking at them on my machine now then? It will be a long time before I upgrade and it will more than likey be Kubuntu! :congrats ๐ ;)

If you want to mimic the 3D effect of rolladex windows on Vista....just add 3DSphere to your XP System. :congrats ๐ ;)

I agree with Iain and Bruno about the Vista, it was a big disappointment for me too.
I have test the ultimate version for about 4-5 days and after the first great impression of the beautiful look, no doubt about, I have start facing the problems, software incompatibility and all those security warnings 100-300 times daily, all those "where is this" and all those "computer <clever>/stupid guesses" have made me run away from Vista back to XP.
Though have in mind, to go back to XP after the installation of the Windows Vista in your hard disk, it is another big adventure full of problems! :,

Very true Nikos.....I had a wonderful performance getting rid of Vista. If you are interested BBC.com has a Have your say section on Vista. Just a quick glance shows that approx. one in ten people are happy with it. Most of the contributors are IT Professionals. The fact it requires the high ram and relatively high gb hard drive plus a top line card to run at optimum puts it out of the question for most families. If you take into account that many parents have shelled out on buying an 80gb hd,512mb computer with a low end card so their kids can have a computer ,buying a new one just so they can run Vista is not an option.......major mistake by MicroSoft. :congrats ๐ ;)

As per a conversation I had with Iain recently, I say NO to Vista... all this bad news is more than enough for me to decide that. My graphics card would need an upgrade to run it anyway. My basic rule of thumb - I´ll stick with the OS that is packaged with any PC I buy when I bought it. Currently, its XP and I love it. If its not broke, why fix it? And apparently Vista does not seem to be any kind of fix.

;)

The problem with that Fred is that why can´t you decide what OS you want to have with a new pc? You are buying a machine and you should have the choice of OS that you want... not want some software giant has bullied manufacturers into loading into their hardware.

Here´s something that may interest you... the way of the future perhaps? ~ http://www.infoworld.com/article/07/02/02/HNfrenchstudentsopensource_1.html

You are perfectly correct Mick. The issue you mention came up in the news here recently as someone did not want Vista on their new computer and the store in question refused to instal the OS requested. Consumer Affairs here got involved and the store in question was told in no uncertain terms that they were in the wrong and the law is on the side of the consumer. It was pointed out that that is a globally accepted rule. The consumer being the purchaser has the right to nominate what system is on their computer at time of sale. It is also in the interest of the store to comply as it means a sale which is why they are in business for. :congrats ๐ ;)
