Chichigirl. It sounds to me like this guy has NO clue and does not care. I´m not sure where he hangs out and/or gets his stats from, but I´m pretty sure that 90% of the people I know here at Skinbase (WinCustomize and LOS too for that matter) do NOT use stolen pictures in their skins. I used to put pictures of things I liked in skins when I first started. But I didn´t take them from other skins and claim them as mine. My Sonique skins would have been good if I´d tried that ;) <BR> <BR>If you made every image yourself in whatever this person then claimed as their own on this site then you are within your right to complain. and I would do what Jerry suggested and try and contact his host if he continues to be a tool about it. <BR> <BR>If however you used images other than those you made (like clipart or other royalty free images) then I´m guessing it will be harder to resolve. Using your skins is wrong either way, but I´m guessing this site is all about the sorts of sites that have all the Britney wallpapers and Winamp skins etc. They just don´t care.... <BR> <BR>And I don´t care who gets ripped. It´s wrong if it happens to Treetog, it´s wrong if it happens to you. It´s laughable when it happens to me :D
chichi, when it comes to Internet, different set of rules apply... or in many cases, no rules at all. As you know, with file sharing programs, lot of Recording and music company have gone out of business. While they were all fighting for the closure of Napster there was a whole lot of clones of the program being put out, that in the end... the battle was lost. Impossible to police and regulate, the Internet continues to be the downfall of a lot of ´real world´ companies. <BR> <BR>Unfortunatelly, we skinners have only two avenues we can take, assuming we don´t have thousands of dollars to spend on legal help. <BR> <BR> <BR>Option1 - Is to act really nice and ask for the removal of your work that was posted against your permission. If that doesn´t work.. you can then bring it to the attention of his Host where the site is hosted. In many cases they will not take to kindly the fact that there is ´stolen property´ on their servers. They usually ask for the removal of the art in question. <BR> <BR> <BR>Option2 - Digital Artist Cooperative <BR>For a small fee, artists will be able to join up no matter which community they belong to, and get some form of ´organised´ action by the cooperative. The subscription fees should cover the legal expenses. Blah, blah... strenght in numbers, that sort of thing. <BR> <BR>At this point in time, there is no such organisation.. and the only avenue of help are usually msg boards and bunch of skinner friends that could be bothered to help. :-( <BR> <BR>And to be honest, although I usually make some noise on the boards about rips, I seldom have time to do anything about it myself.. and I have a lot of respect for skinners that do, like Jafo and Elwin. Of course, we are also all guilty of jumping when the treetogs and nuvems get ripped because we have a great respect for their work. However, I have noticed great deal of ´Apathy´ among the community lately about rips. Actually, I noticed yesterday that the rip complaint on skinz.org was taken care of.. finally, like it took them for ages to delete the rip postings :-( <BR> <BR>So, for your own piece of mind... it´s simple, if you can´t handle people ripping your skins, then you shouldn´t be posting them on the community sites, cause that will continue to happen. <BR> <BR>OK, getting back to the ´ripper´, you also said that his email didn´t work , so that pretty much limits what we can do, is this still the case?

listen to Jafo the macro <BR> <BR>and I really thought pabo was going to put some organizational group such as a hit squad together, to handle the rippers in the past, but it seems even he got tired of the chase...
The primary reason that skinners such as treetog are ripped, and consequently/subsequently have their rippers pursued dilligently is that the works are both universally acclaimed and fairly easily recognized, so the rips are simple to spot. <BR>Given a known and clear target, I´ll go after anyone who steals an artist´s copyright. So far, [touch wood] I have had a pretty good record of success....perhaps by using just a pinch of vitriol, and not getting too OTT...;) <BR>Naturally, people whom I know well and whose work I´m clearly familiar with are readily defensible, but it is only ever going to become more and more important for everyone to personally NOT let our artists´ rights be eroded by ennui. <BR>If you see a definite ´rip´ bring it to everyone´s notice. <BR>Even if you are unable to respond personally, others might in your stead. <BR> <BR>Left to apathy, nothing happens....and skinning as we know it will go to the dogs. <BR> <BR>I have often found that people tend to care little....until it happens to them personally....then the proverbial hits the fan. <BR> <BR>Just because one artist does not care what others do to his property that does not diminish the hurt that others will feel for their own when it is stolen....;)
