Well, ideally, you write a blank check and hand it to one of these hard cores here that you trust and say "build me a kick-butt system"...
{:p

On the other hand, I would ask you (confidentially, of course):

1. How much do you have in your budget to spend?
(And don´t push your limit, because the unexpected will always come up, so leave yourself some reserves. And never tell a dealer that you have exactly "X" amount of dollars to spend. Trust me - they´ll no doubt suggest a system that will match your wallet, rather than your true needs.)
:)

2. How comfortable are you with both hardware and software?
Ex: Are you comfortable installing your software from scratch - i.e., does a blank slate sound daunting to you? Starting from an empty HD and working your way up? And have you ever installed any hardware in your machine on your own?
If so, you might be able to save a few dollars. (Especially if you can salvage certain products from your old system.)

3. Or would you prefer buying a ready-to-go system?
If so, you might want to consider building a system at Dell or Gateway.
But if you do that, you may want to have someone knowledgeable to held you pick and choose the components. It may look like your saving a couple of bucks on , say for instance, a video card, but those couple of bucks can make a heck of a difference sometimes.

Well, there´s a start on some general questions -
hope it helped...
{:P
If you go the route of having your machine built make sure it is by someone you can totally trust or you´ll have pic n save parts in it...

Try "Fry´s Electronics" Hugh Gadget Store (If you have one near you)

Sit in wait, and attack when the sales hit over there if possible...

Gosh you all thanks a bunch :-) I don´t want to rebuild my computer so hobnobber can have it, me gets the new one lol ...... I guess I´m just asking for the greatest B-day hobnoober ever has bought me lol lol lol

My wish list is lol
2ghz 1g RDRam GEForce 3 / 64Mb 120gb/hard drive WXP home edtion
I guess you can say Im spoiled by hobnobber, but on the other hand I feel I´m worth it lol
Best Buy, Circuit City and Dell want around $3, I don´t like that price tag because it seems this time of year every one usually runs sales and this year there are NO sales :-(

Doreene, never heard of the store :-( hey I still have your skin but have not been able to work on it, when I put all my backed up files on my computer, something changed "Every single file" on my computer "Atributes" to a READ ME FILE and can not work on them. I have to figure out how to remove the check box on the "read me file only" without doing that to every single file on my computer :-(

Elwin it sounds like your the budget man in the house hold..... but I´m also tight with my wallet lol so me might have to sacrafice some things and thats a hard choice on what to sacrafice...... and software is not a problem installing myself nor is hardware.... Thanks

Scarebear..... me don´t like gateway, I think their over priced with to limited, including their warrenty on parts and labor that they offer..... Dell advertises a lot of sales but for what I want is not on sale, $3, :-(

Doreen that place looks great but I´m shakie on the warranty/return policy/etc for spending that kind of monies?

yahoo auction has just what I want, its loaded, but the guy selling it has NO profiles or prior ratings and does not answer his emails or messenger...... the picture of it also looks like it was taken in a home on the living room rug and not from a retail store!

Well scarebear, you also probably have to ride horse back to get to the nearest store to check their prices lol just kidding.

So while I´m pulling my hair out trying to correct problems on this computer...... I still keep looking, me wants a break in life for once!
