Bummer. I had the same problem on Win2k, but Scarebear uses it in XP. Oh, and I suppose you tried Illumination and Chroma too, eh?

I am still ROTFLMAO with Elwins grand entrance, the skinbase page finshed loading and I sit and look at my monitor and say "what the hell is that" I hate my name and then I see Author Elwin...... stumped and laughing I take a look and .......splat !laughing on the floor I had to go wake up hobnobber at 4:20am he he he....... Real cute Elwin :-) /chichigirl46: can take a hint, me will check it out......... chichi said it well in her first post up there. I´ve been feeling the same thing for awhile now also. I´m looking into making msstyle´s, but man, it´s tough learning a new format. =( <BR> <BR>The best thing is to do what Doreen says and try to just ignore it, because it wil not go away (I´m still working on that this). ;) There are plenty of alternatives out there. =) <BR> <BR>Question: isn´t Customeyes a bit more complete than EFX? I haven´t used either in quite awhile, but I thought Customeyes skinned the toolbar buttons also (which is something EFX didn´t do).

Robo: you´re absolutely right about CE. The reason I choose eFX over it is 3 fold: eFX is so easy to skin, it has an extremely low overhead, and it´s rock stable on my system. But I´ve skinned CE, and it´s very easy to skin too - it even has it´s own built in skin builder, and it also has it´s own rollup system. But it´s not as stable on my computer. <BR>And somehow I think we´ve gotten way off the original subject of the post... <BR>{:p

Trouble with eFX is how it responds to x-mouse behaviour. Turns out that with eFX your window looses focus as soon as you move out of the immediate window area and onto the skin. But other than that, it´s great <BR>

CustomEyes won´t skin any windows on my computer (running WinXP). eFX works great as far as skinning the windows, but it has a bug that makes it almost unsable for me. The titlebar only shows the first letter on what ever should be there. Example, if I´m browsing "My Documents", all I see in the titlebar is "M". This make the titlebar useless. I think I recall this being a bug in NT way back when eFX was still in development. <BR> <BR>Oh well, I guess its time to learn to skin msstyles. :)

I´ve said many times before that Skinbase is my home because this is the place I feel most comfortable at. <BR> <BR>But just a personal observation about "Community". <BR>I think that no matter where you go - no matter which skin site you visit, you´ll always find friendly, concerned people that you tend to care and have an affinity for. They don´t have to be the "elite" skinners, but they tend to go that "extra mile" to make others feel comfortable, no matter what their status. <BR>To me, those are the members of "my" community and the true skinning community. <BR> <BR>Of course, it helps that a majority of them happen to be found right here... <BR> <BR>{:p

Chroma was always my second choice to wblinds to use, but I can´t seem to find their site........ any one gotta link to it? Or have they gone out of business, awhile back I heard something a long those lines.........

Chichi: you´ll need to try it yourself. Scarebear uses eFX with XP with no problems, but I guess it depends on the system...

MS styles isn´t really a true skinning engine - just a hack for XP. But it also doesn´t support any other version of Windows except XP. <BR>And everyone else who was developing a system similar to it have effectively gone out of business... :(

eFX works in XP just as Robohead pointed out. Not all of the titlebar text appears. I never use that so I don´t care :) <BR> <BR>I haven´t tried Customeyes in XP so I can´t say. <BR> <BR>I didn´t like Chroma too much last time I tried it. <BR> <BR>I´m not game to try messing with the styles yet :) <BR> <BR>WindowBlinds works in all versions of Windows I´ve had. It´s too intense to skin though at the moment (for me).

Then maybe we need to get some good coders together :-) to come up with competition for skinning Windows lol who better then the great skinners that also code programing :-) in this community........... or even the hackers and the virus coders can now do something more interesting with their knowledge and put it to good program? he hee

About the pop-ups... yes they do pay for the running of the sites, but purrlezee, just go to DevArt, browse around some pages and you got like a kazillion new windows! Same goes for Custo. Well not that I care, I got ITabs to block any popups! :) <BR> <BR>And about Skinz... well the place "died" back in Janary/February last year, and quite franktly still is, even though it´s been revived! I was very exited when the site returned, but damn was I dispointed on how the site looked and felt, just wasn´t the same! :( <BR> <BR>The Community... some hate it, some love it. My feeling is that, sure there´s a community, but if you ask around the various boards, you´ll surely hear that alot will say that some of the other sites are "coperativ whores", "stupid", "childish" and shit like that, but when all comes to all, I believe that The Community will survive and get stronger as time goes on. <BR> <BR>Well anyways, I believe that topics like this will be brought up from time to time and will surely bring up some real serious debating, cause no matter how you put it, there will always be "pros" and "cons"! <BR> <BR>Hmm.... this make me wanna write down my thoughts about the various site and my view of them.... maybe I´ll post´em here later! :) <BR> <BR>(Lets hope the returns works, or else this post will look absolutely crap) ;)

I don´t really think there is much wrong at all. Each site is run by different admins and each set of admins has different views on how they handle the daily running of their site. and that is great. If every site was the same, well, we wouldn´t need them all :) <BR> <BR>I get popups at every skin site I go to. With the exclusion of WC I think. I don´t blame the skin site. It´s the advertising system they all use. Banner advertising is not as effective as it was (not that it ever was - but hopefully you know what I mean) so for the ads to register as actually being viewed, they have to be forced upon us. That´s how I see it. <BR> <BR>I visit most sites but can´t spread myself that thin anymore. So I only upload to a few now. But each site is cool in its own way. The two BruB mentions are unique and useful in their own ways. <BR> <BR>Skinz - the site that made me really interested in skinning. The moderation is how it was then and I am glad it is still like that now. It helps weed out rips and if they want to control the quality of submissions (like wallpapers etc) then good on them. It´s their site. <BR> <BR>deviantART - well it just has everything :) It is not a skin site though. It is the biggest ART site amongst us all. With its poetry, indy art, photography etc it will certainly attract a wider range of users. <BR> <BR>The community is like any community. You have your different groups of people and they all make up where we hang out.

okay /me finally made it back over here to give my two cents (been chit chattin all over the place in this so called community) =) <BR> <BR>okay lemme see how do I feel about the skinning community and why do I visit these sites??? <BR> <BR>Well for me I stumbled across skinz.org and hit the msg board and asked some silly question (either icq or litestep related & I don´t remember the date) but somehow I got sucked into the msg board & the community like a big black hole and have never been able to really escape it... <BR> <BR>The longer I stay the less I even fight it to get out of it, I spend alot of time behind my machine/machines running reports and doing lots of other computer related stuff I enjoy... <BR> <BR>I mainly come out to play on the msg boards during filtering reports (that I am on call to do 24/7 so it´s never predictable "how much" I can play) <BR> <BR>I run away to build them and when I shoot them off to run, I run back to the msg boards to play during this time, I found myself getting kinda attached to everything and everyone related to the skinning scene and so here I am bugging the hell out of most of you everywhere I see a comfortable msg board =) <BR> <BR>The End

hmmmm hmm, I don´t think I´ll express my outlook or feelings on this subject, I´m a little down, depressed or disgusted. I´m not sure what I´m feeling :-( I do know if I were to open my mouth, some one for sure would jump on me and they would not know what the heck there talking about , some seem to think they know it all and really don´t know what is really going on.......... I hate it when some one does not take the time to read through the threads before they decide to put there foot in there mouth :-) I have learned a great lesson myself from a site, never to be so trusting......... Also my computer is no play ground nor are my paid programs for you to help yourself too ! <BR> <BR>I´m considering other alternatives in skinning :-( I don´t like the monies I´m paying out now for Object Desktop yearly and then skin windowblinds for free, just to have them turn around and make a browser that has convience and then they figure out how to force the members and skinners to buy it, "well lets make the browser with unlimted downloads" maybe most won´t comprehend that were really forcing them to buy the browser by actually restricting their downloads....... instead of just making this browser with all these conveniencies, tempting the people to buy it and the monies go for the WC bandwidth...... well I don´t care how you slice the cake, Stardock and Wincustomize are under the same umbrella, Stardock sells the product and Wincustomize offers the FREE , skins, but I now see g r e e d ............ Well I for one don´t have sucker written on my forehead nor my backside, and I sure don´t like getting kicked in the teeth either....... me move on to skinnig some other programs that might have some appreciation for the work put into a skin uploaded, then to make more monies off the skinners work............ <BR> <BR>As for the most of the skinning community are a great bunch of people, but Skinbase and the baseheads are the BEST in my opinion :-)

Chichigirl I hope you don´t think I´m ignoring your feelings when I reply to you here, actually I´m doing the opposite, ppl have a way of misunderstanding me cuz of the way I word things or something I dunno... <BR> <BR>I too had a serious prob not too long ago w/ the BS around skin town I won´t get into the specific details of what it was but I was one step from taking my dive off the net (yet gain) but I thought about two ppl I admire alot around here, one being Jason the Carebear and everyone knows I admire the dutchy by now... <BR> <BR>well to make a long story short, you cannot hang around the skinning community and invest a lengthy period of time whether it be playing around or working to skin apps for fun or whatever and "not" get serious and/or passionate about it and the stuff behind the scene or the ppl you chit chat w/ on a daily basis it´s just natural. <BR> <BR>But the only real way to continue on and "enjoy skinning" is to go back to the root of it all, and try not to look at the other stuff (and you know what I mean) of that may include doing exactly like you said, being selective about what you skin and do yes that´s part of it, (but also trying to ignore some of it) cuz after all it´s there everywhere in real life too, and you know what I mean... <BR> <BR>My very first and last windowblind was called "Just for Fun" cuz I could not think of a name and I figured wellll I made it "Just for fun" hehe <BR>Dangeruss helped me of course cuz I had no clue what I was doing and still don´t come to think of it... <BR> <BR>And Jason has this saying "Skinning Should be Fun" and crae keeps me level headed and giggling all the time with his serpant tongue! and w/ everyone elses part in the skinning community I can´t help but keep my eyes now on what hitched me and I won´t let the ugly thoughts that get in my head & drive me off, it will have to be something else I guess <BR> <BR>just "try" to stay focused on the fun that´s all cuz you´re another reason I stay too! <BR>and thanks for my windowblind "you" made me! =) <BR> <BR>man I´ve been typin too much on the boards lately, I´m sure someone is gonna flame my a** soon! Boiling it down myself... I believe that it may have been myself that initially posted the differences in the communities that Brub mentioned above. WC KO´d 9 WP´s that are my nighest popular skins with Baseheads and Deviants. No pop-ups at WC or Devart but as for (NO NAMES) There are some nasty people out there, hiding in wait to say something nasty. Pros and Cons ? That is correct... I´m spreading too thin also. :D <BR>Just trying to keep up if you friends like what I do. /sed:
