OP
What programs do you have in mind?!?!
The easiest way of learning how to skin a program is to download the prog and some skins and see how the work and what is need to to skin them! :)
(At least that´s the way I do it)

Listen to snow, he speak skinning wisdom.

Everyone one will tell you Trial and Error, That´s why I try to skin everything at least once, just so I can say I tried. But the key his, Trial and error. Patience and Sangria (for ChiChi)

n3twork: Why not try Skinmem? It´s very easy for a beginner, and it´s home is right here at Skinbase. :)
SkinMem is a freeform skinnable system resource monitor. The program displays the percentage of the current RAM being used by your PC as well as the available RAM left in Mbs and display CPU usage. The program now gives you the option of displaying physical memory, virtual memory or page file memory and CPU usage.

http://skintech.skinbase.org/skinmem/

Download and install the program, and then come back and look through our archives for skins that you may like:

http://www.skinbase.org/section.php?sections=skinmem

n3twork... you´ll need a decent graphics program. Paintshop Pro http://www.jasc.com/products/psp/ is great, and a lot cheaper than Photoshop.
Lots of skinners use PSP.........some will tell you it´s not as powerful as PS, but for skinning it´s all you need, and it´s a lot easier to use IMHO.
Also there is The Gimp http://www.gimp.org/
The Gimp is free, and worth every penny ;) ......seriously, it´s a good program, but I find it just as complicated as PS.

Elwin´s suggestion is a good one.............SkinMem is one of the simplest to skin. One bitmap and an .ini file. A good place to start. :D /me

I´m working on a very thurough tutorial designed for ppl like you. It´s called Skinning 101" and is going to have everything you´ll need to know. It´s getting long though; 10 pages as yet. It´s turning into a hand book. :P And there is a 202 on the way. I´m planning on it having multipul tutorials to give a more thurough overview. If you are interested in seeing a preview and maybe some reader oppinion, I could send it to you. Send me a pm at velocity art. That;s where you usually can find me.
