Ah, but also note that the only app skinned by the SKins Factory is Windows Media Player. Why? Because that comes pre-installed with XP and the like.

In that sense, I think the SKins Factory has a much more profitable thing going on than Pixtudio, who skin more traditional skinnable apps.

I don´t think you´ll find that you´re going to get rich. Heck, most would be lucky to pay for bandwidth on a web site.

Skins Factory makes their money selling skins to large sites or companies wishing to promote a product, like a game system, or an upcoming movie. They are actually a large pool of skinners, so my guess is that no one person is making what you would call a living wage just from that effort.

Pixtudio is a partnership between 2 well known skinners that have a large following. Do they make a LOT of money in this one enterprise? Only they really know, but I doubt that either Renato or Alex have given up their day jobs just yet...
:)

Frankly, my personal opinion is that there´s not a big enough market to sustain a continuous income from skinning. And the ´lions share´ of skins are still made by (and will continue to be made by) the hobbyist.

is there a possibility that software developers rely on skinners habit to do things for fun and of course for free?

If I may step in....I would have to say that the answer to your question is probably going to be yes....Why pay one person or a company to skin your application, when you could make a crappy skin and ask others to do it better? In theory that would save a lot of money, time, and the promotional aspects of it are huge... Most of us either skin for fun, for the challenge, and/or for the competition, and there are probably hundreds or thousands of skinners on the web. Which means that many different styles and I honestly think that unless you find someone who´s absolutely clueless about skinners or believes that all those who skin for free suck a fatty, you will probably not be employed for very long if at all...

Try selling digital art work or prints....there´s a better market there....(unless someone designs exactly as you, or steals your work...), but either way, that´s just "my" opinion.....Good luck....bugzOUT

On second thought....maybe you´re looking in the wrong direction....Heres what I´m thinking...Make your own site and sell some cds full of your skin suites...Why? Because there´s always a favorite skin of the day, week, month, and year, for most of these skinning websites and there´s always someone looking for the best "in their eyes". If you´ve already created a number one skin, than expand it to a suite that will include every app you can find to skin or the least skinned appz available...(the least skinned because if there´s a section for it on a skin site...it could hold #1 for a while). Also instead of uploading all of you great skins, just post screenshots of your desktop and ask for opinions...and save the best skins for the cd...

or: Try selling digital art work or prints....there“s a better market there....(unless someone designs exactly as you, or steals your work...)

I personally would not pay for a skin that I could create myself...but not everyone is as formilliar with Microsoft Paint as I am... but either way, that“s just "my" opinion.....Good luck....bugzOUT
