Have fun with 404 and remove an ad

A repost: <BR> <BR>In reaction of the recent murmeling on the chatbox about some far to cool flash advertisement; <BR> <BR>First this: A site like skinbase.org can&acute;t excist without ads (or am i wrong, then remove them pls ;-), this is not a call to remove the skinbase ads, its just an example! <BR> <BR>Windows has a build in addblocker, its named hosts (just hosts) and it lives in the folder &quot;windows\system32\drivers\etc&quot;. With this file you can &acute;block&acute; any server you want. The file contains dedicated IP numbers for hostnames, so if you use your local IP number (127.0.0.1) for ads the computer will search for ads on your own computer (and will not find them :-)). BTW, it looks difficult but it is very simple :-), just open the file and take a look. <BR> <BR>For example; To remove the adds on skinbase.org you&acute;ll have to know the host where the adds come from, (view page source)-> ads1.ad-flow.com. <BR>Now add this line to the &quot;hosts&quot; file and ads from ads1.ad-flow.com will disappear! <BR> <BR>127.0.0.1 ads1.ad-flow.com <BR> <BR>The file can have any size you want. Make a backup of your original hosts file. <BR> <BR>Have fun, <BR>PK <BR> <BR>PS. instead of the ad you get a 404 page

Great Idea PK but dear members, do this for any other site than Skinbase. This site needs to pay for itself and the best way to do that is CLICK THE ADS. or everyone gives money to gRAVE. <BR> <BR>It&acute;s still a great idea and I will probably try it. but not with Skinbase.

As i said, removing skinbase ads is just an example. Removing doubleclick.com ads may be much more usefull for explorer (or msn.com) <BR> <BR>No lady anymore! Did you know that you can get Epson compatible inkjet 6-pack for only 22,29? Cool huh?!? ;-)
