OP
here is the re-formated text:

I know this is not a Computer Support message board. But most of you guys are knowledgeable enough to help me here. I´ve been having a little problem with my PC, for a long time and now, well it´s getting on my nerves. tell me if it´s normal
I have an HP Computer, P3 900 mhz, 512 Ram. Now my CPU always show 100% usage. Is that normal?

I´M running WinME with almost never any crashes. I´m one of the lucky one I guess. And since the Os version is made to run specificly on an HP computer, i´m not sur e I want to upgrade to WinXP or Win2k myself. Also if it´s not broken, don´t fix it. So it´s running smooth. BUT i´m just wondering about the CPU usage.

Right now with SkinMem
Physical Memory: 49%
Virtual Memory: 1.15%
Page File mem: 13%
CPU usage 100%
RAM usage: 13%

And I almost have no background running apps except for my ISDN connection, IE 6.0 and Rainlendar.

Well, if it were me I´d be concerned about being pegged at 100% all the time. You´re not running SETI@home are you? What about that nasty software that´s shipped with Kazaa that "steals" your CPU cycles?

Brub.... when I use to use our W98 HP/computer, my memory could never get above 73% and they consider bad...... Best Buy even removed all runing programs behind, still the same....... until I used "Camtech´s" Memory Pro, awesome program, showed I was running all kinds of stuff compared to using run and type in msconfig and unchecking programs in their..... through this Memory Pro you can see and shut down all the programs runing that aren´t needed........ Cametech might have a free trial, check it out...... just scroll down the page until you see on the left "Memory Pro...... also he has info/prog on spyware to same as zone alarm Pro here´s a link, worth a try http://www.camtech2000.net/

that might be a SkinMem problem. are currently using explorer as shell. for me on Win98 SkinMem shows 100% CPU usage when i´m on explorer. strange enough it works fine when i run HoverDesk on top of it.

I´m not running any big memory munger. Skinmeme was only an example. Inhotus, or iPanel are saying the same thing. Also my PC at work uses Win2K pro and I know what task manager you are talking about.

My start-up list is down to a minimum. Hey! WinME is booting in 40 seconds, that´s pretty quick :)

Maybe it´s normal that the CPU runs 100% !
I haven´t used Windows ME before, but I´d imagine it´s like 95 and 98 where you don´t have a nifty task manager like Windows XP 2000 and NT (which are chock full of nifty-ness, btw). I seem to recall a program out there called WinTop that was a decent task-manager type program for 9x users. It was probably modeled after the unix top command. The kicker was that it would show you what process was actually taking up your CPU, memory, etc resources. So, if it´s *really* at 100%, try to find out what process is eating up all of your CPU cycles. Like Elwin said, though, it might not really be at 100%.

Oops - using the Graphican Replete skin in sysmetrix, btw.

Using Skinmem in Win98 for me shows 100% too.
Using SysMetrix on the other hand, it varies on the fly beteen like 14 and 50% to peeking at 100.

So, I´d say it´s a SkinMem thing...

BruB do you have any apps that run on startup?!
Recently I read somewhere that a certain application (can´t remember which one :( ) grabs up all the available RAM just to release it when..... errr.... what the hell am I talking about?!?! duuuuuuuh /me /me /me
Somebody please slap me...... brub was talking about CPU usages and I start rambling about RAM usages... sheesh...

:snow thinks you need to talk to :grave! Could be a SkinMem prob indeed as moshi mentioned!

BruB, are you using DesktopX? If so, do you have a trash notifier? If so, try removing the Trash notifier.

Just 1 of many possibilities.
