American Rental Association. Sounds boring but actually interesting. 12,000 peoples. We go to Anaheim every 3 years. (Las Vegas and New Orlean the other years)
yes etype that amber alert is good thing that came out of that... (seen two more kids abducted this week posted on the freeways w/ that thing)

no body is trying to gloss over the tragidy, I think it´s just hard to have to re-live it again watching those images on TV again stirs up alot of ppl´s emotions and gets everyone upset all over again and again that´s all...

one image I cannot forget that I seen was a man in a suit & tie jumping to this death from top of one of those buildings and the media had such a good shot of him you could actually see this mans face & his expensive shoes and the color of them even, as he was kicking and falling in the air to his death,
I remember thinking how can the media do this to that mans family, what purpose did that shot have for anyone? It was ruthless and insensitive and it was our wonderful media bringin us the most up to date live shot of death

I can´t watch the news this week specially when we have new terriorist alerts again running around to drive everyone nuts *sigh* you just wish it would stop already...
Good thing they at least had the decency not to show people jumping from buildings over here. I can imagine the family of those people would not want that to be shown again and again and again.

And come on eType, don´t let your emotions cloud your thoughts. It´s monday morning, so excuse me for the following evilness:

"If you don´t like hearing about it,then change the channel or turn it off,or ignore the newspaper articles. That´s your right."

But what if I disagree? Ignore it and wait for it to go away? Live in a dreamworld?

"The media in your country air it and print it because they think it is a newswothy event."

It is also a sensational event, guaranteed to get a lot of viewers. Good thing they had the ethic not to stick in commercials, but overexposure is never a good thing. It dulls the senses.

"So think about the people who sacfrificed there lives for your freedom "

Ah yes, do play the WW2-card. "We saved you, so therefore we are righteous". a) What does this attack have to do with WW2; b) hereditary sin/guilt is an outdated concept, just because country A did something good in the past does not mean that they are flawless; c) were any opf those people in that building then?; d) and in any case, none of this was direct at any country in particular. What´s with the over-defensiveness?

"Stop whining and complaning about someting you oviously know nothing about."

Sad thing is, after the exposure we´ve all had to it, we´re all opinionated ´experts´.

Now let me be nice again, Snow and the rest are not glossing over things, this entire thread is just a reaction to the overexposure. Exposure is good: "Oh what a horrible event. How could they do this". Over exposure is not: "Yeah yeah, we know what they did by now, get over it".
I am not going to respond to this out of respect for this site.
I commented,you know I feal.
Damm typos----Skinbase needs spellcheck :-)
We allready got one! It´s called Jafo LOL
Yeah, but he´s getting sloppy. Perhaps he needs a reboot.
´tragedy´, not ´tragidy´
´feel´ not ´feal´
´complaining´ not ´complaning´
´something´ not ´someting´
´obviously´ not ´oviously´
´sacrificed´ not ´sacfrificed´
´newsworthy´ not ´newswothy´

That´ll keep you going for a while....;p
Oh, bugger....
´already´ not ´allready´, Mister Snow....;p
Jafo, try the skinbase IRC logs, you´ll have a lot a fun spell checking with them. /PK:
Sorry Paul... :( :( not intentional!! (guess I spelt that wrong too) ;)
***going on a different subject here****

I´m going in Anaheim in february for a convention Doreen. Maybe we´ll meet :)
really, what kind of convention is this? and we´ll see Brub (I´ve had a few request from ppl to meet via mail but I think those strange and never reply) but well seeeee... hehe
It´s kinda funny I did have the same reaction. I live a hour drive for the Canada-US border, so i´m basicaly a neighbour. And the day it happens. I was destroyed by the lost of innocent lives but I was kinda of happy that the U.S got a taste of their own medecine. But that´s beside the facts.

This situation leave me, a year later, Indifferent, still sad for the men and women that lost their lives because of a religious beleif. I´m in the middle. I´m really mad about the fact that someone had the nerve to do that. it was unbeleivable. I had to send most of my employees away and almsot close for the day at work because that´s all people where talking about. Even thought I did not get touch personnaly. I will remember this day all my life, but not for the reason "they" would like me to.

Yes Snow, get prepare to be flamed, kick, called name and etc.. Lucky you did not post this on Devart.
I´m a skinbase admin, how weird can I be.

don´t answer that!
Back from work,no ot today----yeah:-)
jafo, when you get to be old like me,short term memory goes, not only do I misspell,I miss entire words ie; you know HOW I feel.

Thanks for the corrections there, duly noted.:-)
hehe BruB okay get in contact w/ me before you leave to give me some more details and well see what happens, =)

anyways if you are a net weirdo and try anything funny, I know the rest of the weirdo guys in skin town will hunt you down! hehe j/k =)
I´m a skinbase admin, how weird can I be.
don´t answer that!
Posted by BruB on 09.09.2002 @ 15:35:23

and I´m looking up at your icon right now! hehe
Well, a coffee cup with a mould, nose and 2 big eyes isn´t what you say ´normal´ Doreen... /PK:/PK:
true true PK... hehe
and Brub I just seen the link you put in the chat box to your profile at AU, hey! you don´t even have a skull head?
oh and you and your wife look so cute! =)
Sorry for Screwing up your thread Snow :/
Frankly I´m disgusted with some of the attitudes I´m seeing here.

When 3 commercial aircraft fully loaded with passengers are hijacked and flown purposely into the largest building in your largest city then you can talk about living in the real world. (the sheer arrogance to act like this event is akin to something that´s gone on in say Europe. Oh yea, because this sort of thing is par for the course in Denmark eh). Shit like that only happens every day like that in horror movies, not the real world.

If the anniversary of such a horrific and unbelievable as this event isn´t pretty amazing, regardless of where it occurred. And I don´t agree it´s been over exposed. It´s probably the most single tragic event that´s occurred for quite some time. The INTENTIONAL murder of thousands of people done in a most specactular way.

But if you think it´s "shit happens every day" I´d just love to hear something that´s comparable. You´d have to get into natural disasters to get into the same ballpark and that´s certainly not done by humans to humans.

The third and fourth planes primary targets were the white house and the capital building,oh this will be remembered for years to come.
Doreen: You are in Southern California it sounds like, as you desribed it,does not sound good(it rings an all to familier issue, the rich get richer and the poor get poorer)

I understand what you are saying;the media does get agressive at times such as the incident you describe, the war coverage----i think this is because the reporters are under a lot of pressure to get the story out first ,you know, from their bosses and such.
One good thing has come out as result of all these abductions, in California we now have the "Amber alert" on the freeways, this was attributed to the media coverage.

9-11 has affected me deeply. I have a tribute on my bkaro since that day.
To me,this post is trying to gloss over the tragidy, like so what,it happened, now forget about it.

Well,I WILL NEVER FORGET

I thought about putting a Sept 11th tribute on my desktop. I decided against it. Shit DOES happen everyday. West Charleston is a little village. It won´t be important if terrorist attacked over this way. Naw! Only big cities like New York City, Paris, Rome, & etc. I live everyday life like the rest of the people. The news on tv is horseshit & depressing. Everyday the world is changing dramatically. I ain´t gonna watch & read Sept. 11th attacks. It´s done & over with. We must move on with our lives. I know I sound like a bitch. I care about people & the world. Sept 11th probably be a holiday or something else.
Does this make any sense?!

I agree with ya, Snowy.

Snow: as an American, I have to say that you have a point.
It was a horrible thing that happened.
But, I have to agree that because of the power that the American media machine has in this world, it has taken on this life of it´s own. Americans as a whole have been told time and time again that if you don´t "feel" a certain way about one thing or another, that somehow you´re Un-American, or unfeeling. So this "bandwagon" mentality occurs that says that you MUST feel a certain way about this terrorist act.
And because of the power that America has in other countries of the world, it tends to ´leach out" like colored dye in water.
Unfortunately, the myopia of Americans is such that they tend to filter out the rest of the world.
They forget that things like this, and much, much, worse happen every day in the rest of the world.

Heck, we as a people have become so focused that we even tend to forget that the WTC was not the only building that was hit that day. The whole idea of the Pentagon and the people that were killed there seems to be but an afterthought and a footnote in the "story"...

And in this same way, we, and the rest of the world too, tend to forget about things like the genocide that occurred in Somalia, or Uganda, or - well you get my point.

I guess the REAL problem with America is it´s myopic view of itself. Until it happens to US (pun intended) it didn´t happen. And if it DOES happen to US, then the rest of the world had better jump on the bandwagon with US.

So while I, as an American, would dearly love to nuke these bastards into one big, glowing, parking lot, I understand and sympathize with your feelings.
And besides, I´m still trying to figure out who REALLY did this to US anyway.
But that´s another story...
:(
I was on the train home when the guy next to me (i didn´t know him) got a call on his mobile, he listened for a couple of seconds, hung up and then started crying. I asked him what was wrong: he had just heared that his best friend, a red cross volunteer, had lost both his legs by a alied fighter bombardement on the city he was visiting in Afganistan. 3 days later i saw a tiny little message in the newspaper, that was all.

Its horrible what has happend in Manhattan, but dont forget, USA is not the only place in the world where tragic things happen.

(Major) Shit does happen all day, every day (and everywhere).

Yes the media tends to go overboard with this, but I have to tell you I´m hurt, that you guys would say something like this.
"YES Finally".
I was kinda of happy that the U.S got a taste of their own medecine.

I feel very sick to my stomach now.
Koasati, my "YES Finally" wasn´t ment as outburst in "enjoyment" over that "the U.S got a taste of their own medecine" nope not at all.
My outburst can before I actually knew exactly what had happend.
I said it because the US (Gods own country/land of the free/etc/etc) got a taste of "the real world". For years I´ve been listening to how good and safe it was to live in USA, no outsiders would ever dare to do a thing like this....but now they did.
That was the reason for my initial reaction! (which I kinda regreted later)
Koa, Like Snow it was a reaction of the moment. I never said I meant it now, a year later. I don´t want to start a debate here so I will not say all of what I think!
Sept 11th attack will be in U.S. History books at schools. That will happen in the future?
Snowman: This one riles me!
For Americans, this tragedy is worse then Pearl Harbor.
This was a attack on me,as an American,we lost a little bit of our freedom that day and forever more.

I have been fortunate to have traveled this world, there are armed gaurds in public places,Italy,France to name a few.
I sadly think that´s what is ging to happen the the US

WE WILL NEVER FORGET WHAT HAPPENED

/me is half a globe away and this stuff did and will dominate the media again. It´s not so much an American thing, it´s the bloody media which is way to biased and sensationalistic these days. Focusing too much on the mighty, glamourous and powerfull and so little on what´s really going in this world. My solution is to follow as much news from as many sources as possible so I can get that glimpse at what´s going on other than the "big" things, and can develop my own opinion, as opposed to echo the TV.

Besides, learn from the past, live in the present, look towards the future.

Ah, it´s always good to see that not everyone takes things as they are told.
If you don´t like hearing about it,then change the channel or turn it off,or ignore the newspaper articles. That´s your right.
The media in your country air it and print it because they think it is a newswothy event.

Many victims still have not been recovered and never will be.
The world trade center is thier buriel ground.
The familes of those victems have no sense of closure.
It is an honor to give respect to the dead, thier familes, the firemen, police, support people who joined in the recovery effort.

So, don´t make stupid statements like this.
hmm... etype2 let me ask you something:
Would you have the exact same feelings today if this event would have happend outside the US?!
Would you have felt the same sorrow and anger?!

If this event had happend somewhere else, it would just have been an attack on another country and not "the entire free world"!!
I´m not too sure a thread like this is going to lead to a very pleasant atmosphere.
One of the nicest things about this particular site is the pleasant rapport but this particular topic is going to stir up a lot of high emotions especially at this time of the year.

I for one won´t be taking part.

Be careful :)
If an attack happened somewhere else, absolutely I would free the same way.
This is not just an American thing, and yes it does affect the free world and all the world for that matter. People are people it dose not matter to me what country they are from. It is the loss of human life that matters.
When Princess Diana lost her life so tragicly, there was an outpouring of sympathy from all over the world. We still talk and read about it today.
Her death, just like 9-11 is just one of those things that affect me deep inside. It burns me

Pearl Harbor was an attack on a military installation,9-11 was an attack on inocent people from all over the world not just Americans.

Let me tell you something,my father particeapated in the Normandy invasion in ww2 and I´m dam proud of it. If hitler´s war machine suceeded, and achieved their goal of a "pure aerian race" It´s a good bet your country would be under German or Russian rule.

So think about the people who sacfrificed there lives for your freedom
Stop whining and complaning about someting you oviously know nothing about.

It´s exactly what crae said Media that plays pick & choose on what to keep sensationalizing on TV to stir emotions over and over again...

A little girl 5-6 years old recently was brutely raped and killed along w/ her family in a poor area over here in Cali, a week later another little girl about the same age was picked up and kidnapped but in a better County over here in Cali take a guess which one was broadcasted over and over again until it made you sick watching the outpour of grief over one instead of the other cuz of where the location of the two little girls lived at?

The media has no mercy they don´t broadcast for the good they do it for sensationalizing tragic events and to get more ppl to tune in to their programs...

pretty nasty motives I think at the expense of human emotion...
Yep! I read the about those little girls on FoxNews.com :( That´s aweful. News reporters are just doing their job. Maybe not. I read once & don´t read the bullshit again. End of story.
I don´t think showing respect for the poor people who died, thier familes and the countless people who worked 24/7 in the recovery effort is sensationalizing. I think it is a very good thing that we can show the people of the world that we have´nt forgotten what these handful of luntics did. I´m glad they are televising the events. If people are not interested the media would not be there.

My office where I work,is going to have a minute of silence,in memory of the victems on 9-11
Most countries have rememberence days for things like when wars ended etc... I think Sept 11 will become one of those days - and rightfully so. I´m not in the USA but I still think around this time of all the innocent people who lost their lives.

And like Elwin said, it wasn´t only the WTC that was hit. I think people should be reminded of the other flights and places attacked (or attempted).

I plan on remembering, but not by watching hours upon hours of repeated footage etc...
This is the sadest thread that has ever been posted........ the pain of a loved one lossed is unbareable daily, I´m sickened :-(
Oh, my goodness...this is very depressing.:(
No etype I don´t think it bad either to show respect for the ppl who died that day, of course I agree w/ you there...

However it´s the "motives behind" the media that gets to me,
In the two cases of these little girls that got raped and killed over here, the family that needed the help the most got overlooked and the media sensationalized the one that was killed in the rich area and no fund was set up for the poor family Only the rich family had the publicity and a hugh outpoor of funds and she had a service at one of the richest Cathedrals over here in Cali called the Crystal Cathedral

the other little girl & her fam prob had a 200 buck cremation, who knows the media never said what happened to her and the other family members killed in the house that night.
(both one week apart too)

ppl who never cared about the flag before all pulled out their flags after that 9-11 incident and became all patriotic getting wrapped up in the hype...

I think ppl should look around alittle more at the big picture and at themselves alittle more, not just what is put in front of their faces via what the media chooses to present to them.

remember also the more they hype this stuff up the more the terriost get what they wanted in the first place, to be put in the spot light, Death to one human being is the same to another no matter where, what, who or how...

The media could care less but makes their money off of the where, what, who and how so they pick and choose carefully who will get the spotlight and be mourned and remembered.
The lack of a prior formal ´Declaration of War´ rendered Pearl Harbour and ´9-11´ exactly the same.

The complacency of the US as a country/government was ´asking for it´.
However, the US people as individuals certainly were not deserving of it.

The nature of the beast would have the overall ´winners´ from this event the various networks who tirelessly covered it all to their eternal glory.....their competence did their reputations no harm at all.
The cynic would have Network boardrooms squealing with glee...."think of our ratings.....but are we ´brave´ enough to slip in some commercials?"...;p

I wouldn´t deem this a ´sad´ thread but a ´sobering´ one.

Anyone remember Lockerbie?
Oh yeah, "sobering" is the word, and here´s admitting my initial response was just as bad...

On the other hand, /me watches darts on TV sometimes. There´s a fireman competing there, and I can´t help it, there´s this aura of being a hero clinging to him, and the guy is from the UK ?! That aura is in my mind, and that´s what the media that week did with me, somehow being a fireman and being a hero got attached, and the image won´t leave my head... just an example of what the media can do, I guess.

Anyhow, Snow, I get and feel what you´re saying.
