Hmmmm...

Pros: A sense of pride and acomplishment for active members.
Cons: A ´my icon is bigger than your icon´ attitude from some folks.
Abuse: "I´ll post comments on anything and everything and spam the chat and message board with things like ´I´m listening to...´, so that my icon gets bigger without skinning anything".
:)

I think that if we use them here it should be everywhere, because at LOS you don´t hardly see them...

I like gRAVE´s idea, it make the whole thing flexible, and should make everyone happy... I just don´t want to see them shoved in a corner and hardly ever seen like they are at LOS.
I want to see them all the time.

I was a sir or something like that at WC and I have uploaded nothing there. I think it was because I started the webring and was therefore doing something for the community. But that really has little to do with WC.

The ratings here will only have to do with your skinbase activity.

Sounds ok to me, I felt much more comfortable at Wincustomize after being just plastic again. One more comment in advance. If such a system is implemented, LOS´ rules are pretty good. I was a sir at wincusto and seem to be a senior member at devart. While I appreciate the thought, I earned those with a big mouth. Never uploaded anything at wincusto, just little stuff at devart. At LOS´ at least I´m counted for what I´ve actually made/done :).

Good idea, gRAVE! KInd of like at Wincustomize. If you don´t want a "Sir" or "LOrd" in front of your name, you don´t have to have it. A decision that Solomon would be proud of... ;)

Attention everyone :)

I´m glad to see so many response in such a short time. While I was reading all that messages I get one GREAT idea. I think it is :)
What if we give in options for each user to choose if he wanna see rating icons or not to see them.
Give us more feedback about my sugesstions, because I think it´s better than spamming the vote :) (some users have already 5 votes in activity rating and this is only 2nd poll since we count them)

I would also like to know where do you want to see that icons appear.

Ok that´s it all from by now :) See you later.

plastic was testing the poll and his test worked. He mentioned here in this thread that he had made two votes, so we know to remove one.

And you have to remember that with people concerned about the load time of skinbase lately that adding more images to every page is not a good thing. It all adds up.

Perhaps a system like DA is a good idea. A text icon.

Besides, DA already shows symbols next to user names everywhere and no one has ever said anything about it. Jark has a $, arc has a +, etc. The icons wouldn´t be any different than this, just colorful (and animated if you´re lucky...)!

P.S. Plastic: Why are you trying to stuff the ballot box????????

The point of them is not to copy off of LOS, it is to point out active members of the site and the community. The featured skins give you a lot of points, so you could strive for that. It is just to show how active people are, it is not meant to make anyone feel bad. It is not rating how many skins a person has or anything, it´s just how much they use and like Skinbase. And i can personally assure everyone that they are small enough to fit in the line of text. In fact, they are smaller than the :) smiley icons which to me are annoying because they are too big to fit in the text.

Again, the point is to not be exactly like LOS, so if we are going to use them, they should at least be visible most places... Otherwise, like LOS, what´s the point?!

BTW: They are winning in the poll...

They will not be going everywhere here. If they go up, we still need to decide where they go. But it won´t be everywhere.

I´m really enjoying LOS, but talk about the shape, color etc of the "avatar" next to people´s names takes up some space in the chatbox used to show it... I dunno, seems a bit useless. A personal icon can be used to show some "character", seems enough for me.

Mmm, bit of a bug. Just to try, just voted no, and then again. Won´t do anymore, but add -1 to no...

Here and at LOS, ratings aren´t used very much, for skins. Maybe there´s better ways of showing appreciation ?! Like this voting for featured skin thing at LOS. No numbers to compete with, just pushing what you like.

Poll up. If the vote is a yes, we then need to decide where to use them :)

I might make it the new poll for the website after I talk to gRAVE about it. Fair enough I reckon :)

Why don´t we give it a chance for a week and then if most people hate it, we can take them back off?

So there are more cons than pros it seems...

I like your idea Scarebear, it is the "salt and pepper" of the site.

Reply to two concerns:

spamers: I don´t particularaly forsee that as beign a problem because if we find anyone doing that they would recieve warnings/punishments.
icon size: This won´t be a problem becauset the icons would be small enough to fit within the line of text, they are smaller than the :) icons.

It works for me because I am an active skinner/comment giver both here and at LOS :) However, I totally agree with what Elwin said there. It´s a bit silly when you get members with huge point tallies and zero skins. It´s good that they are frequenting the site and addding the needed interaction, but having a ´rating´ as such above say someone who makes quality (not quantity) skins could seem unfair.

Lots to think about.....
