They are finally telling us here, on the fires, and explosions have been by the terrorists......
no no no.... i really don´t think that it´s an act of terrorism!!
But then again.... it cannot be totally ruled out, but i think it´s just because whenever we hear of some serious accident these days everbody thinks: "could it be another terror attack?"

This one i really think is "just a normal accident" if you catch my drift (not that any accident is "normal").

Anyways, yeah it is really sad that it happend and it makes me think of the 86´ shuttle accident!
Space travel is DANGEROUS anyway you look at it... But I can´t help it.. I want to fly into space.. If I had the chance I´d go in a heart beat.. :-D I´ll be a trekkie ´til the day I die... :) God Bless the astronauts that died in this accident and all those they left behind.
You got your wish /hobnobber: " Bonk" I hope you enjoy your little space trip......
good bless the famely to the seven astonauts
Slow down aiglestates, your running to hard, or is their a sale at Walmart........

I don´t know Snowman..... with the tech knowledge that we have today, I´m not to sure they didn´t have their hands in this, especially with the Israel-ian Hero that Bombed Iraq etc etc........
My opinion :-)

I think this accident just shows that space travelling still isn’t at a level where we can take it for granted. Every mission is still a tricky experimental thing, where 1000´s of little things can make the difference between KABOOM and a successful flight. And with the lesser amount of money spent on space flight (for the NASA and ESA i mean) such accidents will (can,.. maybe) happen more and more. The accident with the (unmanned) Ariadne last year (from the ESA) also showed the lack of resources (and bad interaction between the different project groups) and how it paid off..

Btw, offcourse i feel sorry for the people that have died in the shuttle.
My sympathy goes out as well...
I don´t get it. Why did they use Columbia rocket when it´s old? Why can´t NASA make a new rocket? Was Challenger new or old?

God Bless the astronauts. Rest in peace.
None of the space shuttles is old. The are build for proximally 100 flights. The Columbia was (if I recall good) on it 27th flight. After each flight the shuttle is striped down complete (new ceramic layer etc.). And the Columbia just had a ‘update’, they worked on it for 1.5yr. It was its second flight after the update. So the Columbia surely wasn’t an old piece of crap, the whole idea of the shuttles was/is to reuse most of it each flight.

There are lots of ideas for a new shuttle. But since NASA has a little bit of a money problem (department of defense got 60 billion EXTRA last year, NASA has 20billion a year in TOTAL..) we will see the space shuttles in action for years. Next flight is planned for March (to the International Space Station). But will probably be deleted until June
