Chickie : On topic but wrong thread :P One of these days you may get a new machine. Chances are it will have XP or Longhorns on it. Can´t hurt to learn a few things while you can. 8) Also, if you find a skin for styles xp you like, know it could be proted ovee to wb for your by a friend. 8)

I have to admit that the the limitations make for sleeker skins. Some WB skins are padded and bulky. I´m all for freeform, but this skin is going on every window on your machine. That´s a lot of padding, and some skinners just don´t take that into account.

Question: Is this like in winamp where the buttons are set, but tranparencey is freeform? Can you controll if edges are rounder, or in other shapes? How about alpha trans like ik if you made bedind the text translusent, but the rest of the skin solid?

I don´t want XP. :| I rather keep Win 98. I don´t have to fight. I´m through dealing with ObjectBar. WinBlinds & IconPackager - that I´m gonna keep.

I´ve played around with Stylebuilder some. The main difference is the borders (like Frogboy mentioned). At first, I was annoyed by this, but now, after using msstyles for quite a while, I actually prefer the smaller borders. And as you can see from some of the incredible msstyles out there, it´s just a matter of adapting to a different format. In fact, look at all of the ports from msstyles to WB skins over at the frog´s site. :O

Frogboy: If you re-read the first post, she just wants to know more info on how to skin it. That´s it. That´s what we´re talking about.

Your TGT post came in several posts after her comment (an opinion she is entitled to and I see truths to both sides of), and after ppl had just moved on and gotten back to the topic. Maybe you should start another thread, talk about it in private, or make a web page and link it so you don´t have to type so much. >:} I´m done taking about it here personally.

I think i´ve shown how a reasonable person can think your off-topic.
Skinning TGT != TGT History
It makes for an ok short sidenote, but that´s not what this thread is about at all.

And that was quite an eloquent insult to SB and it´s members. Just about everyone seems reasonably freindly to me. I´ll stop there.

.......Getting back to the point of this thread........

Did anyone happen to find the section on VP with info on this, and has anyone here actually made a skin for stylesXP?

BTW Chichi,

Regarding msstyles format. With your skins, the main limitations you would need to concern yourself with are the borders. The borders on an msstyle have to be something like 3 pixels. No larger, no smaller. You can´t change the position of the title bar buttons and you can´t put other images on the title bar, just th emain title bar graphic.

Probably a concise way to view the format is that it´s designed around replacing the graphics on the Windows XP GUI graphics rather than changing the design.

I´m a little confused how my response, which was about the history of Style XP and TGTSoft can possibly be considered "off topic" on a post entitled TGTSoft in which ChiChi´s responses seemed to ask why Style XP had gotten "bashed".

Furthermore, it strongly implied, to anyone who can read between the lines, that "bashing" of Style XP was driven by "one man" (gee, I wonder who she was thinking there) and it was "competition bashing".

With these givens, I cannot see how any reasonable person could consider my post on the matter to be off topic. Particularly in relation to other posts made by others. Talk about double standards.

I had always thought that the regulars on Skinbase were reasonable, friendly people. This thread is certainly not showing some of them in the best light.
Watch for Email Red :-)

Robo I have both programs and have read up on them, I also checked the forums like you said and thank you for the information........ I have one question if you would know, if I were to port my skins over would the sizes of the .bmp graphics be a problem, or does msstyles require specific size´s only?

If Chichi were an old lady trying to cross the street and Froggy were a bystander trying to help her out. Chichi would yell she was being robbed and lash out at the Frog with her handbag, while all the other bystanders would jump on him.

What a world, what a world.

Robohead: I´m busy and nearly everywhere as always. 8) I´m helping out at a few more places now, but still at VelA (been there over a year now too, btw ^.^).

Chichi: I´m with you. Things should get back to the point.

Frogboy: No offense, but a huge off topic post is kinda rude. Details like that can wait for if a person asks. Then you just discuse it in private as we did back then. Maybe you disagree (which you are netitled to), but I can´t help but notice you jumped in to correct her, but not to help her. And come on, I know you didn´t mean anything by it, but Red or "Cut The Red Wire" is what I really preffer.

Chichi, many of the ´masters´ of msstyles hang out in the forums at Neowin.net and Designtechika.com. Although I don´t know of any ´tutorials´ off hand, I´ve seen lots of tips and pointers for making msstyles and shell styles. One thing is fairly certain, like crae said way up there, you should use StyleBuilder to make em´. It´s the easiest way to go. I´m still working up the nerve to dive into making one myself.

I still use both WB4 and MS Styles, but if I ever become motivated to make another window skin, it will be an MS Style. If I find anymore info (regarding making msstyles) that I think you could use, I´ll let you know. :-)

CutTheRedWire, hey red, how you doing? šŗ

This is just pathetic to me...... Frogboy, if you feel the need to have to "Educate" every one about your own programs/concerns, please be considerate to take it to a thread concerning skinning your programs............. this thread "WAS" clearly on a new toy I installed and asked about skinning the windows with StyleXP software...... if anyone has input on skinning with StyleXP great :-)

One question keeps taunting me.... What has a history lesson on TGTSoft got to do with
skinning the application??? The time spent compiling it would be better served if it was
spent on a tutorial. jmo
