Let me start :-)

A good pick for me would be Ilya Repin, this (Russion, 1940-1930 or so ) guy is unknown by most people. He was a realist painter and had a keen eye for great “shots”. How often do you see the common people on this kind of paintings (The Boat Haulers for example) But he also painted Tolstoy, Rubinstein and other eminent people of his time. It’s a shame that most of you will never get a change to see his paintings in real cause almost all his top paintings belong to two russion museums that don’t want to drag them around too much (the first / only exposition outside Russia was in 2001 in the Netherlands (Groninger Museum).

Eeh, I am not sure you want to read this on a skinning site,.. but he! If people are allowed to count from 1 to 10.000 then I may post this! ;-)
