A federal appeals court delivered a potentially mortal blow to Napster, ruling that the wildly popular online music service that revolutionized how fans share their favorite songs contributes to widespread piracy.
Before Napster, there were other programs that could do the same thing and there always will be other programs,´´ said Matthew Martinez, a freshman studying computer engineering at UC-Santa Barbara. ``This court ruling isn´t really going to be effective in stopping piracy.
