New R1 DVD Releases

On July 3, Columbia will be releasing a special John Singleton 3-pack.

The set will include Boyz in the Hood (1991), Poetic Justice (1993), and Higher Learning (1995). All three titles will be presented in both 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen and full screen formats, with a 5.1 soundtrack in English and 2.0 surround tracks in English, French and Spanish. Extras will include subtitles, production notes, talent files and trailers.

Michael Schultz´s The Last Dragon (1985) will be available on July 3 as well. The disc will feature a 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer of the movie, a 2.0 surround track in English and the trailer.

Frank Oz´s The Indian in the Cupboard (1995) is due for release on July 3. The film will be presented in both 1.78:1 anamorphic widescreen and full screen formats, with 2.0 surround tracks in English, French and Spanish, as well as subtitles in the same three languages. Bonus material will include talent files, production notes and trailers.

Warner has set a June 19 release date for the Meg Ryan and Russell Crowe starrer Proof of Life. The disc will feature a 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer of the film, 5.1 surround tracks in both English and French, two making-ofs, an audio commentary with director Taylor Hackford, cast filmographies and trailers.

Buena Vista has announced two new batches of DVD titles for June and July:

June 12:
Bruce McDonald´s Hard Core Logo (1996), a pseudo-rockumentary along the lines of ´This is Spinal Tap´ - 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen, 2.0 surround track in English, trailer
Essex Boys (2000) - 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen, 5.1 soundtrack in English, trailer

July 17:

George Gallo´s Double Take, starring Eddie Griffin and Orlando Jones
Mimic 2 - 1.78:1 anamorphic widescreen, 5.1 surround soundtrack in English, trailer
Giuseppe Tornatore´s Malèna, starring Monica Bellucci - 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen, 5.1 surround tracks in English and French
City on Fire with Chow Yun Fat (1987) - 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen, 2.0 surround track in Cantonese

Also note that Buena Vista has announced a change in the features of the upcoming Unbreakable disc, which is due for release on June 26. The disc will no longer feature the audio commentary with the composer of M. Night Shyamalan´s film. "Unbreakable" will be presented with in an anamorphic widescreen transfer, with DTS and Dolby Digital surround tracks. Extras will include behind-the-scenes footage, deleted scenes, photo galleries, a trivia booklet, the trailer and TV spots.
