KYOTO, Japan (Reuters) - Nintendo Co Ltd, the world´s second-largest home video game maker, said on Friday it would raise March domestic shipments of its next-generation handheld game machine to 1.1 million units from a planned one million.

Orders from distributors and retailers for the new Game Boy Advance, which is set to hit the home market next Wednesday, had already topped 2.7 million by the end of January, Nintendo President Hiroshi Yamauchi told Reuters in an interview.
``We have raised our shipment plan for Game Boy Advance by 100,000 units in the face of strong demand,´´ he said.

Analysts expect the new Game Boy -- faster than its predecessor and boasting higher resolution, more colours and Internet capabilities -- to cement Nintendo´s dominance in the handheld game market.

``The success of Game Boy Advance is a no brainer,´´ said Lisa Spicer, senior analyst at ING Baring. ``The Game Boy business will continue to be a solid profit generator next business year.´´

The Kyoto-based company, which will launch the machine in overseas markets in June, aims for an initial shipment of one million units in the United States and the same again in Europe, Yamauchi said.
