The first "skinning portal" was launched today - http://www.WinCustomize.com. The website is a collaborative effort between Alexandrie (who runs Alexandrie-Telecom skin site), l0c who helped run Skinz.org, Shoggot, who also helped run Skinz.org, and Stardock, the maker of WindowBlinds, DesktopX, IconPackager, and other popular customization programs. Stardock is providing the bandwidth.

The site has been created to provide a general portal to
the skinning community. A lot of its design is focused on
providing recognition to users who are contributing to the
community. The top skin authors are listed, the top skins
and themes overall are listed. The site also features
quasi-administrator access groups, making it possible, over
time, for "super users", to be able to help run the site
without having to be full Administrators or Moderators.

"Since Stardock makes customization software, we have an
interest in making sure all of the sites in the
customization community, whether they be skin sites, shell
sites, litestep sites, etc., are as popular and successful
as possible. By creating a hub site that lets users new to
the whole customization mantra interact with the seasoned
veterans, we hope to help the community continue to grow
and thrive," said Stardock´s Brad Wardell, aka "Frogboy".

The site includes skin sections to the most popular
customizable programs including WinAmp, NeXTStart,
LiteStep, WindowBlinds, IconPackager, and DesktopX. Other
sections will be added in a "vetting" process. Users are
also encouraged to visit other skin sites for more skins,
themes, icons, etc.

The team at WinCustomize.com believes that Microsoft´s next
version of Windows, called Windows XP (code name
"Whistler") is going to greatly expand the demand for
customization because it will come with a theme-aware shell
that lets users choose between the classic look and the new
"Luna" look (users who want additional choices will be able
to download WindowBlinds XP).

WinCustomize.com is open for business and ready for user´s
skins, comments, and suggestions. Additional features and
enhancements to the site will be added over the coming
weeks.
