You got that right. Besides, I see no MAC-number when I type ipconfig, just the usual ip-numbers.

Anyhow, Chichi, the trick to getting an answer (other than applying brute force) is to ask the right questions and provide the right context. Like:

context
1. what´s your current setup? Do you already have a network?
2. have you already hooked up the router to the machine(s)?

questions
3. what exactly are you trying to do? Are you trying to install the router, or are you tryibng to actually connect to the net through it?

Recently installled a network myself and it took me three bloody days to get things running right.

Chichi: I´m from Missouri - you gotta show me.
{:p
I say do it, and see for yourself.
I can´t see that sharing your connection with just Hob could slow it down noticably.
Unless you guys are really hitting the P2P heavy...

I dun´t like the sounds of that one LOL

6. If I´m gone for a long perod time I guess you all will know, /me ´s flowers some how got in a crack and shorted out my network hookup :-)

Thanks for the help and the advise to pray, those links were helpful, they led me to a site called Linksys? LOL

Some how my computer never goes in the direction it starts out to go, but if have never came accross this guy´s site..... check it out and make sure you click on "Full Screen" http://www.ultrashock.com/

Usually it comes do to this:

1. install network cards in both computers (windows should auto-detect these)
2. connect netwrok cards to the switch/router
3. connect cable modem to the switch/router
4. install software and configure the switch/router
5. pray

Plastic.... Is the thing supposed to act as hub/switch too? I´ll try to answer you..... I purchased a "Linksys v2" it says= EtherFast4-Port Cable/DSL Router with 4-Port Switch..... I read nothing about a hub.

2. Does your broadband provider allow multiple computers..... yes they allow it.

3. Mac number of the ethernet card (found by opening a run box, enter ´ipconfig´ Plastic I think it´s Enter: winipcfg ???? But I see on the bottom of the Router a "Mac" address. would that be it????

4. Creaonics= Anyhow, Chichi, the trick to getting an answer (other than applying brute force)..... he hee I would call it chicken shit LOL

I have not messed anything up other than my head............. I have not even tried to set up a Network on either computer or even the router, as I said after all this reading I turned chicken shit LOL So that´s why I´m asking for the advise first.......

5. I´m trying to set up a network between our two computers for sharing, NO sharing with any other computers off the net..... and for both of us to be able to connect to the net.... I can not afford to keep him on the Telephone line and also pay for me on the cable connection.....

I will go and check out these links and probably get more confused :-) I really really appreciate both of your help here.......
hmm... just make sure that you got the IPX protocol installed on both PCs (control panel -> network (network connections on XP) -> install -> protocol -> Microsoft -> IPX) and that you network workgroups (I think) are the same.
dang let´s see if I can remember how to check that:
On XP it´s something like this : control panel -> system -> computer name -> change (if they are not the same)
On 98 I think it done through the network properties in the control panel, not sure though I haven´t used Win98 for quite some time now....

Lotsa tech-mumbo-jumbo but I hope you figure it out somehow :) :)

Routers equal headaches... searching google with brand name and version number could get you some forum links with easy explanations. In general, it´s easy, but there´s a couple of things that might make it difficult.

Is the thing supposed to act as hub/switch too, does it have that inside according to the box. If so, you should be able to just plug in the cables from both ethernet cards and the modem cable. Usually, you can access the router settings using your browser, connecting to the internal IP number the router has, settings are a bunch of webpages.

Does your broadband provider allow multiple computers connected ? Some don´t and check the Mac number of the ethernet card (found by opening a run box, enter ´ipconfig´). It´s usually possible to let the router fool the provider; it does send out the original Mac number to the provider, but has to be set to do so. Heh, I´ll shut up, making it more complicated...
